SO i am looking at starting DAs - never played or modeled any SMs before. I was looking at the GW site and it looks like all the models are the same for DAs have a model in the VSMs except...

There is a thing called 'Dark Angels Chapter Upgrade Frame'. in the troop section...

So i am confused, what am I supposed to get to may Dark Angels so that they look like Dark Angels? Do I buy the units (tropps and other non-DA specific models) and buy the chapter upgrade for every unit?

Sorry if this seems like a basic question...but I want the models to look 'proper'

Thanks for your time...

You can buy Marines and paint them as DA right out of the box if you like. The Chapter Upgrade Frame contains the same bits as the Dark Angels Veterans box set, just minus the sprue that has special weapons that you'd get in a Tactical Squad box. You can use the contents of the Chapter Upgrade Frame to really dress up your models though, and it has enough bits that you can spread it out over a couple squads and give them all a bit of Dark Angels flavor. Personally, I'm saving robes for veterans only in my DA.

Basically the chapter upgrade sprue contains bitz to attach onto normal marines to make DA

The DA veteran set shows this. It is simply a Vanilla SM Sprue packed with the DA upgrade sprue

In all honesty though normal marines can easily look like DA. Just paint them DA Green. Even in DV, the tacs look almost like vanilla marines

OK - so I kinna see now. I am thinking that I might just do DA paint scheme (or my own) and use the special bits where needed and for the 'special' models - squad captains and/or specail weapons....something to make them stand out...

thanks
