My friend started a small CSM army to ally his necrons, and he said he was never going to use his Hellbrute so he gave it to me to, quote, "Do something orky" with.
At the same time he showed me a pic of someone converting it into a weird looking ork. The pic he showed looked pretty dumb, but the idea was awesome.

I can take a hint....challenge accepted!

So here we go!
Originally this is all the pieces i was going to use. I ended up changing the weapon idea as it looked a bit too dinky for such a huge ork.

Ignore the icky water lol i never dump that out till i start picking up a paintbrush.
I found out the nose plate that comes with Dakkajets (they give you like 3-4 per dakkajet and you only use 1) was the perfect size for replacing the removable arm plate. No converting needed! Woot!
The big claws are Grabbin Klaws from Battlewagon sets - never going to use them, so might as well convert'm!

First off, i had to get rid of any and all CSM markings. That meant sanding the crap out of this thing, including punching a hole in his left (viewer's right) leg to get rid of that skull on his armor. Drills work great for this when i can safely reach everything

I ended up missing a spot under his arm where the chains are, but i realized this way too late in the painting phase so i just said screw it since its usually not in sight anyway.
(Unrelated but before anyone asks my thumbnail is a birth defect to look rippled, i didnt smash it on anything)

Then i had to cut off the fleshy exhaust-looking things on the back of the hellbrute. Wasnt easy, i actually had to do it by hand because the only bits i had for my drill were either not meant for drilling or too big or too small. Either way, i got them out cleanly, clipped off the bottom of the klaw's arms, replaced with a pipe, and glued them in place.


Greenstuff time. Using....a lot... of greenstuff i fixed all the torn up armor, attached the head, and made the klaws have fleshy parts grabbing the bases of their arms (i did a meh job at that, still looks ok though)

EDIT: Oh, at this point i also realized those tentacle thingies were ugly as hell. Fortunately since i didnt glue him together at this point it was really easy to clip them out and fill the hole with greenstuff. I was expecting a horrid ravine i needed to patch up, surprisingly i didnt need to do much.

Painting! Would have normally taken me a few days but ended up taking a few weeks because of IRL drama discouraging me for awhile. Finally finished the damn thing, based it, and here it is!



Quite pleased with this thing. Too bad Deffdreads are kinda lame so i probably wont field him that much, but he sure grabs attention sitting in front of my army both on the shelf and on the table lol
The gun is a converted Zzap Gun from a wagon set. Its suppose to be a Scorcha, kinda hard to tell but theres a flame in front of the gun barrel.
His jaw-plate is just plasticard. I took a 1/2inch plastic pipe (same material technically), sliced it down one side and opened it up. Fit around his face perfectly as it was, so i just added the extra bitz to make it look cooler and bam i got a jaw!
EDIT: Another thing i forgot to mention (i took a pic of it but i lost my camera during this, the final pics were taken by my phone) that during the painting when i was doing his skin i painted over his shoulder pads on the powerfist arm. Since they were smooth from the greenstuff, i seriously didnt notice i did that till i already painted his skin with the base green color. They look like huge biceps now....so why fix what accidentally looked damn good? lol

I figured i should do a step-by-step with this guy since its the first conversion ive done i knew how i was going to do it from the start...my Wazdakka was literally me going through the bit box and going "Hmm....thats cool....nah thats dumb....this could work...hmm" etc etc. Even tore off parts several times cuz it ended up looking odd.

Seriously pisses me off that i lost my camera during this. Especially since the final pictures arent that great a quality and i lost the pic zooming up on the massive "biceps" on his arm i accidentally painted lol
He sits up front with my HQs on the shelf in the gaming room. So far im 6for6 of people walking in and going "Wtf is that?" instantly lol

The pics aren't that bad, certainly got the Orkiness across

I love the Klaws, they really give the model some extra height!

Originally thats what i wanted to do since, like i said earlier, Deffdreads kinda suck and i would rarely field this awesome model except in "LOL LETZ BE DUMB" games. But i put him next to Ghaz, hes way too big (yea thats really weird coming from an ork...i know) hes easily 1/3 times bigger than Ghaz and doesnt even come close to fitting on the medium base. I was quite displeased with this conclusion....but still happy with the outcome!

And yea i get the avatar thing alot hehe

Very interesting take on the Helbrute! My converted boss is Dread sized, but I play him as a Mega armored Warboss.

i still feel like that base is unfinished without a random piece of dead grass shrubbery type thing in it....but i can never find anything that fills the bill for that regard (gotta love being in a country you dont speak the local language for lol cant find jack squat)

Actually its a Korean flag lol. If not for the curfew on all military personnel, on leave or not, i would be going to Japan but im bound to get in trouble with a 10pm curfew >.<
Ive found some interesting materials at the art store in Seoul, but nothing i see a use for sadly. All stuff like "The hell....?" not "OOO I KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH DIS!" lol

I guess I should look at the location given. Just saw a reddish dot in the middle of a white flag and figured Japan. Guess there is egg on my face.

Gosh, this is why I love the Hellbrute, it looks cool as hell and is pretty convertible.

heh if i ever, EVER sold my army this guy and my Wazdakka alone would probably jack the price up quite abit. Yea, the paintjob isnt as good as the guys that get paid to paint, but its better than the average joe and both are massive conversions.
