What it says in the title.

I'm thinking of starting an Ariadna thingy and I really like the look of both Scarface and Cordelia, but can I legally use them in an Ariadna army? If not, are they an option to ALEPH

Sorry for asking, but I have neither access to the Paradiso book, nor does the Infinity army builder help me answer my question.

Depends. They're mercenaries, thus they are available to every army unless you are running ITS (Infinity Tournament System) or Narrative mode campaign restrictions.

The only army that can legally take them in ITS games are Qapu Kalki, the Haqqislam sectorial. However. if your opponents aren't going to be obsessing over being tournament ready 100% of the time, there isn't a problem with running Scarface and Cordelia with any other army.

You can use them as long as you do not have any Highlander models in your force. The back on the Paradiso book says you can use any mercenary in your list apart from those restricted by the list. It says that scarface cannot join an army that has any model with highlander in the title. This is only for campaigns and is not ITS legal

Ah, thanks chaps!

I'm just starting out, so it's all a bit daunting to me. But no tournament play for me.

But no, I'm not going to use Highlanders, I can't paint tartan for gak!

Probably Kazaks or Frenchies, don't know yet which ones better fit the theme I'm brewing on.

That's only Narrative Mode in the campaign. So unless you are in Narrative Mode, or the aforementioned ITS restrictions, there's no restriction to using Scareface and Cordelia. If you're playing the campaign but not in Narrative Mode, the restriction is not there either.

Considering your avatar, I assume you're familiar with 40k.

To make a comparison, Mercenaries in the game are similar to Forge World units. The rules are there if you want them. If it's a casual game, nobody is going to mind if you take them. However, in more structured campaigns and tournaments, you're not supposed to.

That being said, there are many sectorial lists that allow you to take mercenaries. Notably, the Haqqislam Qapu Kalqi is well-known for allowing Druze, Scarface/Cordelia, Kaplan, and YuanYuan.

In fact, Kaplan are AVA 2 in regular Haqqislam lists.

Ah, thanks.

And thank you for not bombarding me with acronyms and other gamey terms I am as of yet completely unfamiliar with.

I don't see that coming, since Scarface behave particulary mean against Caledonians during the Ariadna conflicts.

Btw, don't wanna make a new thread as my question's similar - With the Psi-Ops specialty lvl 3 (Campaign: Paradiso), allowing you to take a free Merc, it's not allowed to take Scarface and Cordelia, because they are 2 models.

What about Yojimbo, the biker Samurai? He is 1 model on a bike, but comes with a Krazy Koala - is he 1 or 2 models?

Yojimbo is available as a Free Merc because bike and Koalas are just equipment, not units.

Yojimbo is fine because his koalas are deployable weapons.
