Subject: How to make a "Lake of Blood" base?

Hi everyone, I just started work assembling my FW Daemon Prince of Khorne. I had an idea to build a temple diorama to display him on, with blood from a sacrifice victim running into a lake of blood, and the daemon prince rising out of this lake as if it had been summoned. Does anyone know of a tutorial how to model bubbling water or liquid? I thought that would be the best way to represent it on his base, although I'm not sure how it will all work in practise yet!

I would do something like he does here:

but use Tamiya clear or red food coloring to tint the Vallejo still water effect. I don't know about the bubbles part, but you can also use artist's gel medium to sculpt ripples or waves or what have you over top as it then dries clear, or red if tinted.

Sounds like a sweet concept.
Good luck with the execution of what sounds like a very difficult project.

Thanks for the tip. What makes it even more tricky is that I don't want to paint blood all up the daemons legs, which is what you'd expect if he had just emerged from a blood bath. What I'm thinking now is that I make a whirlpool in the middle of the lake, or somewhere that the liquid has been forced away, revealing the warp beneath (some sort of fancy purple paint effect is my first thought for that). Then the daemon can stand on that clean spot like he has teleported there or been transported from the warp, without getting his lovely manacles and spikes all grubby in the blood of worthless imperial scum. Can I get all that across on a 60mm base though?
I think a whirlpool/parted seas effect might be possible with greenstuff, although I am no master with it!

You can mix ink with water effects to change the colour. If you use paint the effect is the water effects turn into glossy paint that is no longer see-through which defeats the purpose of using water effects. However you can use this effect with say yellow or bright green or the purple you want to get the look of the blood becoming some sort of warped portal.
