Played a game tonight with my mate and we came across a situation with challenges.

It was briefly as follows.

It was an on going combat Huron and 6 chaos marines(4 died) had just charged and killed Lucius and had just piled into the remains of his 6 noise marines(now 3 of).
His turn and he charges in his Daemonettes, about 8 of them. Huron duly issues a challenge to the noise marines wanting to kill the p-fist.
(we did realise later that he was the one who should have been declaring the challenge and not me, hindsight and all that)

We played it that only the champ could decline it but it didn't seem quite right. We did this because of pg 64, accepting a challenge*.

*"If your oppenent has issued a challenge, you can now accept it - Nominate one of the characters in your unit to be the challengee.
Your opponent has probably decided which of your characters he wants to fight, in fact,
this bias might affect how the challenge was framed but the final choice is yours - he cant challenge a specific enemy,
he just issues a challenge to the folk at large and see who steps forward.

Is it that either the noise champion or the alluress can take the challenge or is it that only the champ can accept or decline? Do you challenge units or combats?

Pretty sure you challenge a combat but you can accept with any unit that is a Character so if the Alluress is a Character they can thus accept and possibly decline, but the Chaos Champions aren't allowed to decline due to their rules.

Given that your opponent decides which character declines, and that the Champion is forced to accept unless you accept with a different character, I'd think that you can't say that you decline with the Alluress and get around having to accept with the Champion. So you'd have to accept with one or the other.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!"

You challenge combats, not units, any character in the entire combat can accept the challenge or be targetted as the character who cannot attack if you deny the challenge.

But in this instance, your Champion has to accept the challenge anyway, the Alluress can never accept a challenge when she is in a combat with one or more friendly models with the "Champion of Chaos" rule.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

As DS said. The rules for issuing a challenge make clear that you don't nominate an enemy unit; you just nominate the challenging model.

While the rules for accepting a challenge do say "nominate one of your characters in your unit to be the challengee", using "unit", singular, this is because the default assault rules all are written with language presuming 1 unit on 1 unit combat. If you read further in the paragraph, it goes on to say that the challenge is issued "to the foe at large", and that only "Characters that cannot fight or strike blows" are ineligible. So if there are multiple units involved on the "challengee" side, with characters in range to fight, any of those could potentially accept.

That said, again as DS pointed out, the Champion of Chaos rule forces one of the CSM characters to accept in preference to others.
