Hi all
So me and a friend were thinking about starting FOW having got tired of 40k and I thought about starting Russians.
I have planned to go with an infantry hoard supported by katuyshas and was gonna get
BF Soviet strekovy batalon box
BF Katuysha box
PSC Russian heavy weapons
And then the FOW rule book.
Is this a good way to go for beginners? Also will the forces section have the relevant army list? What other army lists are in this book?
Many thanks in advance

PSC also produces a russian infantry box. BF and PSC infantry dont mix well within one force in my opinion. So i would either get everything that is infantry from psc or take everything from BF.

Also you get katyushas for 2,99€ each from zvezda. Very good models for a really cheap price.

For the forces book, a Strelkovy Batalion is included. For the Soviets, the book also has a Motostrelkovy Batalon (Motor Rifle Battalion) and Tankovy Batalon (Tank Battalion), and also has lists for the British, Germans (Heer and SS), and Americans (all lists for the Late War period).

In my opinion BF and PSC actually mix quite well and if you want to do just heavy weapons from PSC then it should be all fine to be honest. Of course up to you at the end of the day.
And yes, cheap Katiushas from Zvezda all the way

I agree. I wouldn't mix them on a single base, but mixing and matching within your army works fine. BF on the left, PSC on the right ...

Thanks for the help guys!
One more question, what do the Russians have in terms of motorized infantry? i.e transports and stuff. If anyone can send me a link to the army lists while I'm waiting for my copy of the rule book (damn you royal mail!) that would be great
anyways thanks for the help

For lists, the lists from the V3 forces book are available here for free: http://easyarmy.com/

In the way of motorized infantry, Russia seems to be lacking completely in that regard in the V3 Forces book. Their Motostrelkovy Companies in their Motor Rifle Battalion, the Motostrelkovy Batalon, are not actually motorized, and the other infantry options lack transport options too.

Well the russians have 3 options...

1. A motor pool. It takes up a support option but you can get a fleet of trucks to motorize one company.

2. Tankovya- SMG squads that are permanently riding on the backs of medium and heavy tanks/assault guns.

3. Armored Transporter Company... Elite infantry mounted in M3 scout cars or captured German halftracks.

I believe if you take their Vanguard force in Red Bear they can have half-tracks (lend-lease).

However, as others have stated, you can purchase a transport company to shuttle them around.

Moto-strelks seem to be a bit limited in LW as they're all SMG troops and have to get close to do their damage. Russian infantry does well with standard Strelkovy supported by heavy armor, AT-guns and rocket-artillery.

I agree its a matter of taste. But since the PSC infantry box is dirt cheap i couldnt think of a reason to take the heavy weapons from psc but the normal infantry from bf .
