Subject: How Do You Generate Psychic Powers?
|

I'm a bit confused on how one generates the random psychic powers presented in the main rulebook. I've heard a few different theories on how they're generated, but I'd like to be certain of how it's supposed to be played.
The way my group currently does it is like so:
1) If you generate multiple psychic powers (as a result of having a Mastery Level greater than 1) you must declare which disciplines you will be rolling in before rolling any dice.
2) You roll your first psychic power (after specifying which discipline you are rolling in).
3) Choose whether or not to keep the power or swap it for the Primaris power.
4) Repeat steps two and three for each psychic power you randomly generate.
Some of the other theories I've heard are that you roll all dice at once (using different colored dice to denote which disciplines are being rolled for); that you declare a discipline, followed by rolling a power, then declaring a discipline for your next power (unlikely); that you roll all your psychic powers at once, then decide which dice roll is being assigned to which discipline (extremely unlikely).
Any (constructive) input is appreciated.

1) False (You pick your first discipline then make a roll, then you pick another discipline or the same one, and make your second roll). 2) True 3) True 4) True Basically the steps should look like this: 1) Pick a Psychic discipline that the Psyker you are rolling for has access to. 2) You roll your first psychic power in the discipline specified in step 1 3) Choose whether or not to keep the power or swap it for the Primaris power. 4) Repeat steps one, two and three for each psychic power you randomly generate.

DR has it. You pick a discipline, roll on it, choose whether you want to swap, then if you have another power pick a discipline, roll again, choose if you want to swap.
Did you really read the rulebook before asking this? It's laid out pretty darn clearly.

I confess that I was more asking so I could show this topic to some of the people I game with. Even when something is laid out pretty clearly some of them will continue to deny it. I appreciate the quick replies, guys.

Maybe you haven't looked at the right rules with them, I know lots of people who have overlooked the fact that page 418 of the rulebook has rules for generating psychic powers, they assume anything behind the fluff like that isn't really rules.
but it's made very clear there:
"...first choose one of the psychic disciplines ... Then, roll a D6 and consult the chosen psychic discipline ... If the Psyker needs to generate more than one psychic power, repeat the above process..."

Plus a lot of people assume it would be the same as generating spells in Fantasy, where you do roll all at the same time - it isnt, however
