Subject: Spec Ops for the fun of it

My buddy and I would like to use the Spec Ops but don't want to do the campaign because we don't have the time do do this huge thing. So we were thinking of just giving each other XP for a Spec Ops. We just are not sure if it should be above and beyond the game pts or should it be a part of it. For example, a 300pt game. 300pts +25 XP? or 275 +25 Xp?
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I think it's a good idea. I'd just give a set amount of points, like 25 Exp and let you go wild with it.
I also play YAMS with friends, where each Objective adds 1 Exp - don't have to play the Paradiso missions to use the development system

25xp is too much IMO, that is the equivalant of playing 5+ campaign games and doing REALLY well. Maybe make it 10-15xp

Ye, I didn't really mean it as the starting point as I agree with you on the fact that points are usually scarce. Well, if you're not playing Ariadna in 301, that is.

We are thinking of trying it out once at 25 and see how it goes. We get to play so rarely so we want to have fun with them. I'm betting we will scale it back. 12 seems about right to me. So about 3pts for every 50pts.

Ive been thinking about doing something similar, if i ever manage to get a game in then i would want to be using my Spec Ops, but it would be highly unlikely i would be able to play a campaign, so some way of adding in a Spec Ops that isnt just a Line Kazak is a great idea!
Would you think of upping the Xp slightly (to maybe 4 points per 50) and then unlocking the rest of the campaign bonuses? This would allow use of the tables from the book so if people wanted to use a campaign force (with the 'added AVA for one unit' bonus for example) without having to play the campaign as well? This could even be used to practice a new force to see if the points would be well spent on that upgrade...

I talked to my buddy last night and we've decided to try out a 300pt game with 25xp. It might seem like a lot but we thought, what the hell, lets make some super heroes. We didn't talk about the other things yet but it's possible. We just feel that we would probably not be able to do a campaign so we just have fun with the figure if you know what I mean. Other than as a proxy for something else.
I want for my Yu Jing a wire-fu hero. Sci-fi Jet Li! Or Kamen Rider! I wish I could put him on a bike! Can you imagine him doing a superjump off of a bike into close combat!

Honestly I'm not sure about the CA. I do know that even though I'm using the Corax mini I'm going to be use the Morat rules. To me Seed Soldiers suck. I'd have to start in a pod and all that crap. The stats for a Morat are much better.

This sounds like a lot of fun to me, think I'll have to suggest it to the guys down my club.

25xp is probably a bit too much but oh well. I guess as long as we both have the same it's okay.

Its a decent place to start from CDK, if you do find that the Sec Ops can Rambo too much then lower the allowance (or stipulate that a certain amount must be used on the other tables from the book, if you decide to use those as well that is)
I still think its a great idea
