Just wondering, where the power comes from when manifesting the power.

If there is a Character in the squad, do the shots cause precision shots?

I'm looking at a Horror squad with the upgrade Character and a Herald joing. I know the Herald with Flicker Flame has up to 3D6 shots that can Precision Shot, but if I use the character from horrors for measuring distance, is that another 4D6 shots that can Precision Shot?

Interesting question. I don't believe you'd get to use precision shots, as the rule states that it's the unit that's treated as the psyker - so it counts as coming from the unit as a whole. Further specifics are then given about how to treat the character, but they're not a means to treat ALL rules as character-centric.

Yeah. I was thinking why ever take the character. Then precision shots popped in my head. Trying to get the most out of Horrors as possible. So far it seems like MSU and in cover (Ruins and ADL) going to ground when needed or large blobs with Herald re-rolling hits are the best way to run them.

I also looked at the USR, but couldn't find where the power manifests from for LoS and range. How is everyone treating it?

Pretty much. There's no major reason to take the character, they're only useful for two things - taking Rewards (which is arguable) and protecting the unit from a smashy character for a turn by challenging it (which is again situational).
Bear in mind that a unit with an attached Herald doesn't get to use its Ld for the psychic test, but yes, the re-rolls are mighty handy if the power goes off.

We're told the unit counts as the psyker, and in the psyker rules that it's the psyker that picks a target, measures LoS, etc. So it stems from the unit as a whole. In absence of anything clarifying this further, I'm taking this as the controlling player gets to pick which precise model in the unit to count it from.

Right on the leadership thing, however the unit and the herald are leadership 10 for casting psychic powers. Tzeentch rule.

when the character uses flickering flame he would need to check his own leadership and if you roll 6's to hit with that IC then yes his can be precision shots, the unit however can't.

In times like this I would look to IG PBS - measure LOS and range from any of the psykers in the group (not including ICs).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

You probably know, but it's important to note that it's not a flat Ld10 which would be a set value - it's a +3 modifier. The distinction becomes important if the unit is affected by a set Ld value from elsewhere, and the Herald isn't.
