So I've been hearing about WarmaHordes competitive play being pretty fun, and fairly balanced. I keep hearing about this two list format and was curious how a typical tournament goes? Does two list mean just that, bring two entirely different lists? Do I get to choose which I play each round? How are the round structured, 2 out of 3 or single elimination? Are turns timed? Are there any banned models or errata I should know about? And finally if (and that's a big if) I wanted to play Hordes competitively where would I start? Is there a listing of sanctioned tournaments somewhere?

Yes

Do I get to choose which I play each round?

Usually. Some tournaments require you to use each list x number of times

How are the round structured, 2 out of 3 or single elimination?

Single elimination

Are turns timed?

Yes.

Are there any banned models or errata I should know about?

No banned models. Errata is in one place. Rules questions are also in one place.

And finally if (and that's a big if) I wanted to play Hordes competitively where would I start? Is there a listing of sanctioned tournaments somewhere?

If your new to the game, i highly suggest local tourneys.

Also there is a bigge learning curve in this game then others.

There are many combinations / Units / Casters. Unlike some games. You need to know exactly what your opponets casters/units do along with your own to be successful at the larger scale.

Also there is a lot of finesse to the rules

You will be surprised what you might have been playing very slightly wrong, I know the 1st time I played in a regional tourney, I was shocked by how many rules my local group were doing wrong

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47
