Subject: 1000pt Orks with Big Mek biker

I am a new Ork player and will mostly be playing against various marines and MC Nid lists in fun semi-competitive games. It is not uncommon to need AT vs AV14 or numerous durable MC so I would like to use a vanguard ahead of the main troops to thin out the MC or disembark some of the troops to make the shoota boyz dakka more effective when they get into range.
95 Big Mek, warbike, Kustom mega blasta, Bosspole
135 3x Deffkopta, T/L Rokkits
90 Battlewagon
145 20x Shoota Boys, 2x Big Shootas, Nob, Bosspole
145 20x Shoota Boys, 2x Big Shootas, Nob, Bosspole
145 20x Shoota Boys, 2x Big Shootas, Nob, Bosspole
135 9x Lootas
60 3x Kannon
50 Aegis defence line
I was thinking
- Big mek and koptas are a AT unit shooting S8 at 24". 1st turn scout 12', move 12"and start popping transport / MC
- Aegis defence line put at mid-table. 1st turn move kannons, lootas, battlewagon (1st boyz mob embarked) and 2nd boyz mob up to line taking snapshots. Keep 3rd boys mob to defend home objective / aegis line
- 2nd turn move BW thru hole in line with 2nd mob following in cover behind BW to get in shoota range
...or am I making warlord victory points too easy for my opponent ?
Any advice appreciated.

I would say drop the Big Mek and give him a Kustom Force Field in replacement of the Bike and Kustom Mega Blasta and keep him with the boyz so he can give the boyz he is with and the units he is around a 5+ cover save always. I like the idea behind the Defense line, but I would put it in the back with the Kannons and Lootas and give them a Quad-gun for extra fire support.
Also, you have to take a few things with the Battle Wagon like a few guns or so, because it kind of sucks taking it plain.
In the future when you build up more, I say as a word of friendly opinion is take Tau as allies with this kind of shooty list, because I can see it do a lot of damage in the Shooting phase.

Hello,
Generally it looks like a reasonable force. It is brave putting your defence line near mid table. If your opponent brings lots of infiltrators (to deploy behind and throw loads of shots at you) I presume you have to review your basic tactic. To have the approach you suggest would mean the defense line is stretched thin and people woll be able to focus fire on the orks across the gap; or have a gap to charge through.
I'm not really sure what the big mek adds to the deffcopta unit. He'll stop them scouting and moving over impassable terrain; his custom mega-blaster will miss most of the time and he doesn't brink any sort of power weapon to help break open tanks - neither do the deffcoptas.
The boy units are too tame with no buffing of the nob in the unit and the big shootas possibly wasted; you could trade them in for more kannon, lootas or a deff roller on the battle waggon.
Good to see some boyz staying back to man the defense line. You could cut these right down to a unit of 10 and buy some more guns to man the line (deff dread / killakans).

Id say a big negative on the kustom mega blasta... unless Im mistaken, but if you lose you Mek to gets hot rolls, it still concedes a VP to the enemy... thats bad...
if you are adamant about bringing an HQ with your deffkoptas then wazdakka or a warboss biker are far better alternatives, though you will lose scout...
I also use the Aegis with my orks and it is great to put centered in your deployment zone to maximize effectiveness what with grots and big gunz filling it up... also good for holding objectives for Big gunz

Big Mek in Kustom Dragster with Soopa-Gun
|
theres really no point in putting a mek on a bike. KMBs suck and are overpriced for what they do/where we can get them considering we still hit on 5s. Wazdakka has one and ive ran him with koptas with the same intent you have, but i never use the KMB i use the Dakkakannon. Yea, AP2 is nice, but 1 shot vs 4 at same strength....bs2...i'll take the 4 w/o the ap2. (i mainly even took Wazdakka for this because i wanted to use my recently finished Wazdakka picture-accurate model WYSIWYG lol normally its still a bikerboss).
The other issue with the mek on a bike in your list, hes your only HQ therefore your warlord and hes SQUISHY even on the bike since he lacks FNP from the nobz and only 2 wounds.
Also you dont lose scout. BRB rules says if 1 model has it the unit has it, as does outflank. You just cannot assault.
