Thinking about buying the new demon codex...question is should I buy the iPad version or hard back version?
I love having the actual copy but there's something to be said about how awesome the features in the digital version are, like instant FAQ update, rotating pics, easy word look up and rule look up.
What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Cory

Its $60 (well $50 for the US) for a digital copy. The dexs cant be justified at that price and its insane to pay that much for a digital copy. Just buy it with some friends and copy the back 16 pages. As long as you dont sell it or spread it around its not piracy. Convert them into PDF files and you have the book on your ipad, and it wont take up 1.67G of memory like the digital copy does.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

I agree with you on that 50$ for an enook is hard to justify but by only photo copying it you lose all the features that made me want to have the digital version in the first place!

I like digital copies of most things, but not my codices. Mainly because the city I live in isn't known for being the most crime-free in the UK and I'd rather leave a £35 book on a table than a £500 tablet. I can get very engrossed in the games and lose track of where I put things down a lot.

I have been asking myself the same question. I REALLY like the idea of only carrying my iPad with me. The other side is $50 for digital copy..ouch

I got both... The hard back is great because of the art. Yes, the art is in the iPad version but it's just not the same. Also, it is much easier to flip back and forth between pages in the hard back. The iPad version is good because of the merged updates. However, touching the little icons to flip between the unit listing, costs and description pisses me off. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's pretty slow - and I have the latest greatest iPad with lots of memory that I bought purely for the digital codexes. Quite frankly I think they could have eliminated all of the multiple pages per unit thing and simply have the stats, cost, options and description on a single scrollable page. So, the hard back has a better presentation and layout. The iPad is searchable and updated with latest FAQs. Pick your poison.

I have all of the digital codices and love the ease of use they provide. I don't carry 100 lbs. of books to go gaming and I never have to flip around to find special rules anymore.
Plus GWs books always warrant special care so they don't just fall apart. Good riddance I say!

As a player and a programmer - here is my deal - if you want to play - bring the hard copy. I don't care how much you paid for it or how 'official' it is - you can ALWAYS modify the file and if I don't know your dex, there is no proof you are not cheating....
As for me - I would rather tab-sticker the hard copy of stuff - better than digital anyway

This is just showing how little you know about the digital codexes. It's more than a PDF. Significantly.
To modify it you'd have to literally have access to Apple's signing servers and infrastructure.

I think it is more likely for someone to alter the hardcopy or print fake FAQs than try to edit the digital version.

Good luck modifying one of the digital dexes. It would be far easier to hack GW's servers and throw an invalid FAQ PDF up there. :/

Good God Amaraxis, and do you run over their armylists before playing with a calculator to check they haven't cheated with their Maths too? As a programmer you should appreciate the expertise and effort required pull that off. It's like Oceans 11 pulling a heist on a Lemmonade stall...

If you expect your opponent to cheat, why would you play them?
I really like my digital codexes, especially the vanilla marine one that now has both the stormtalon and stormraven rules in it for free.

Don't buy the digital codex.
Boycott it until they release it on Android and other OSs.

While I like your idea, in practice that won't work.
Those with iOS products don't care if it's on android, and those with android can't buy it anyway, so aren't really boycotting it.
