Going to start buying, very soon. I found this unit list of 35 Pt. and just wondering if its a good enough army to start off for a new WarmaHordes player.
-Also, i'm not sure if i'm suppose to post this in the WM/H army forums, it seems not much people post there, if you know what I mean.

Vladimir Tzepesci, Dark Prince of Umbrey-5 pt.

Devastator-9 pt.

Juggernaut-7 pt.

Winter Guard Infantry (Leader and 9)-(Full unit)-6 pt.

Man-o-War Shocktroopers (Leader and 4)-(Full unit) -9 pt.

War Dog-1 pt.

Manhunter-2 pt.

Winter Guard Infantry Officer and Standard Bearer-2 pt.

Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich-2 pt.

Battle Mechaniks (Leader and 3)-2 pt.

So anything I should do before buying this army? Off of Ebay of course... I can't tell what the price is, since I am going to buy them all separately.

Yes, you've got the standard number of Jacks for Khador, with obligatory winter guard deathstar(although it is lacking the rocket launchers), Shocktroopers, and Mechaniks. Plus the Manhunter and Wardog because they're awsome.

Actually, one of the Winterguard infantry sets come with the rocketeers.

I can just decrease the Winterguard down to leader and 5, I can spend the 2 last points to add the rocketeers.

Good enough?

Nah, you really want the full unit to make it a true Deathstar.

Maybe drop the mechaniks, unless you bring their UA(which allows them to repair Man-o-wars) they arn't super necessary. And I've never had luck with repairing stuff myself.

Anywhere I can read the official stat cards online to check them out?

Nothing thats free and legal

The only stat cards PP gives out for free are for the starter boxes(quick start rules are avaliable for free always)

There are several Apps that are avaliable that give you the faction deck(you can find that on the PP website) that cost like $5-10

The Mechaniks should actually be in War Room by default, as they're from Prime. Their UA, on the other hand...

Thats the App I was thinking of. Couldn't remember the name.

And hey, if you really want to know what a unit is like without having to drop $50 on it you can just buy the card seperatly first.

http://store.privateerpress.com/warmachine_2.aspx

Each card is 50 cents a piece.

What is this, a copyright issue? Everytime there is a stat card on Ebay, they always block/blur the texts, numbers, damage boxes and spells. Its only 50 cents, I don't really see them making that much money for stat cards since they always come with the models you buy, are pretty much always in card sleeves and probably never get ruined or replaced, until a new MK Prime comes out.

Its because the rules only require you to have an appropriatly sized base. Thats literally the only impact the model has as far as playability, its not like 40k where the actual model's pose and such effects gameplay.

With just the cards(or the information on the cards) I could play this game only using appropriatly sized cardboard or plasticard disks of appropriate size. I wouldn't have to pay PP a dime to play. I wouldn't have the models and it wouldn't look cool, but it would be possible.

Warmachine as a game is very vulnerable to their game getting pirated because of this.

And besides, the information on the cards is their IP. When you buy a model you are also paying for the information on the cards.

Pirating their cards is no different to pirating a computer game, its simply copying information that is sombody elses IP.

Ah.... Pirating....Privateer Press... Sorry it was just funny

But I guess you can put it that way. And i'm also pretty dumb enough not to say that I forgot that I need the 50 cent cards to read if the models are good enough to buy, silly me....

Warroom will get you the full cards of everything in your faction, updated with any new releases as they come out, for $7. While the app isn't perfect as an army builder, I love it just as a card reference, as it's more convenient even than thumbing through the cards I actually own. It also comes with a pretty good rules reference, which is helpful Definitely worth the few dollars to buy it, if you have a smart phone or tablet.

Meanwhile, while they don't have full stats, Battle College (a wiki site, just google it) sums units up pretty well, giving a detailed breakdown of their rules. Just don't always trust their commentary outside of the basic rules summaries, as it is a wiki, and it often gets things wrong.

You can also buy the rule books, of course, though you'll need the Khador faction book and the Wrath and Colossals expansions to have everything, but the fluff is great if you do grab them.

Anyway, the army looks like a very good start, though I'm not sure if vlad3 is the best caster for it (honestly I don't know that much about him, so he could be fine). It might be an idea to get a caster with the spell Iron Flesh, as the Winterguard Infantry can be pushed to DEF 17, which is very annoying for opponents to deal with.

If you have an LGS that stocks warmachine, browse through the books that have the models you're interested in playing the next time you stop buy. If not, maybe nab the faction deck from war room for browsing (not playing...for playing games using the cards on war room is a terrible idea IMO) (and maybe you might have to pick up the faction deck if the army doesn't come with cards because you're buying used. Just be aware that the faction deck for khador [the physical decks] only has rules for stuff that was released in mark 1) (You can also order the cards separately from the PP store as has been pointed out, but I never felt like paying for shipping for my 50 cent card. (Great chain of thought right....don't want to pay shipping, buy faction deck with higher net cost)

If you've never played a game of Warmachine before, I would recommend heading to your local game store(if you have one), on their local Warmachine night to get some games in. Privateer Press has people called "pressgangers" who are basically community envoys, who run tournaments, teach the game to interested new players, and so on. Your local pressganger should be happy to teach you the rules and play some games with you, and most pressgangers that I've heard of have multiple armies, so he may even be able to let you play with that exact army list.

For getting the unit stats, you can use the War Room app and purchase the Khador faction deck; it should be about $7 and will give you the stat cards for the whole Khador faction.

Sadly I don't have a phone or any kind of tech to get that app, Yep, I know what your thinking "How can he afford all of this if he doesn't even have a touch phone!?" Not a phone-tablet person, never will be.

But thanks, this tuesday i'm pretty much going to my LGC and going to watch all this, plus a Press Ganger is already there, so maybe a little more teaching to the game.

Again, sadly I haven't figured out how much this would cost me, but I'm going to count up...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Possibly AT LEAST $300. With the models listed above, templates, paint and set, Khador book, Rulebook, Token set, dices, glue.

Sounds a bit much?

Khador book is oly necessary for the fluff really, and one or two things which aren't in the card deck, but would be added to any future card deck releases (I figure). The cards can be found when you buy the models. And you will buy the models eventually ha

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

You really dont need the khador book. PlusnI would drop the mechaniks for another Manhunter. What is better than a manhunter? Two manhunters. You will get some milage out of those speedy missiles of doom.

Hope you're getting the 2 player boxed set as your starter. It has the two Jacks you need, the man-o-war shock troopers, and as it's only $100 and those items alone are worth that much, so the rest if the box (Sorcha, the rulebook and all the menoth stuff) is just gravy. Sell off the Menoth stuff to someone, and you'll be we'll ahead of the game. That should save you a bit of cash, if that wasn't already factored into your purchases.

Thanks guys for the help. Still it is just going to cost me a Sh*t ton of money for everything, and that model list I posted above, but hey, best to start off little, but I did find a good Khador faction box on Ebay that comes with the shocktroopers, destroyer, juggernaut and Sorscha, for $40. Still need the other load, but Eh, its okay.

Then again, Tuesday i'm going to my local gamestore, still don't know what their Pt. tournament is, but guessing 35 Pt. sadly their website is down for some reason.

Sounds like a pretty good ebay find . Don't be disappointed if the MoW are a little lackluster... I love the models and the idea, but they can be hard to use. Having the winter guard in front of them will certainly help, though!!
