Storm Guard

The missile streaked over my head, straight at the crude transport that the vile greenskins used that I had marked. The missile went straight through the view port and blew up, exploding the fuel compartment, sending vile bodies in all directions, several died from the explosion, however most survived.
“Steady...FIRE!!” I said taking aim at a large unit of the large green aliens. A salvo of the blue plasma pulses flew through the air at the unit of the greenskins. The end result was highly gratifying, as the worthlessly armored bodies dropped to the ground as a result. The carnage was too much for the orks and the fell back toward their lines. Getting run over by the larger tank-like vehicle behind them, the vehicle did not last long, however, exploding after receiving a solid shot round from a nearby Hammerhead to the fuel tank.
“Team Firetrue, Team Shadowview, Crisis teams Firstborn and Badblood are en-route to a nearby hill manned by some heavily armed green-skins, please move in to the supporting positions marked, I shall be joining shortly.” said Commander Nightflier through the comms link in my helmet, I brought up a map in my helmet to see where it was he wanted us to go. I ordered my troops into the Devilfish. I showed the driver where we were headed off to and off we went, full speed ahead.
“Landing in thirty seconds.” I said into the comms link as my battle suit team decended. Time for those foul greenskins to learn the power of my team's Sunsoul pattern crisis suits, Firstborn and his team had followed me thanks to Nightflier's wishes; his team’s Aurora pattern suits will be a nice addition.
“Ten Seconds.” I said into the comms once more, as they approached the outcropping I noticed that there surprisingly few orks there, though they were carrying absolutely massive guns. I also noticed that they were firing at a pair of devilfish, he as closed in one of the devilfish’s rear end exploded, the surviving fire warriors jumping out of the flaming wreckage.
“Switch to secondary weapon system” I said in the seconds before we landed, which was quickly followed by a wall of fire as our Sunsoul's auxiliary flamers spewed a wall of flame. This was when Firstborn's team landed. As they did, they fired their arm mounted plasma weapons on full automatic, straight into the helpless group of orks, their automated, shoulder mounted burst cannon destroyed the few remaining orks.
I had the Devilfish driver slow down to cover Shadowview's depleted team. We slowly made our way over to the outcropping that had been cleared thanks to two battlesuit teams. As we approached we saw one final team come in, it was Commander Nightflier’s team.
“Badblood, such recklessness will leave me short a battlesuit team. Those orks could have torn you apart had you been unable to shoot them down as quickly as you had. Such a blatant disregard of orders will not be tolerated again.” Commander Nightflier said harshly, “This outcropping needs to be held, I received intelligence that there is a weapons bunker here from before the Orks. This could be useful to us in the future. Firetrue, Shadowview, I want your teams defending it. Firstborn will be staying here as fire support, I have also ordered a Sky Ray in as well. Badblood, come with me.” And with that Nightflier and Badblood flew off.
Of course we get stuck guarding the weapons bunker I thought
“Shadowview how are the wounded?” I asked, as he hoped out of the Devilfish gathering the wounded from the crashed devilfish his team was riding in.
“Three dead, two wounded and unable to continue the fight without major medical surgery, and one just need to be patched up a bit” Replied Shadowview as my team’s medic rushed over to help the wounded fire warriors. Removing the specially designed pack, so she could more easily access the compartments containing the extra medical packs, a cord running from the pack to the back of his torso so that the electronic components in the armor could still run.
“How are they, Greeneye?” Shadowview asked my medic.
“Your initial assessment was correct. Threefinger will be able to return he just had some minor shrapnel damage in his thigh as well as a concussion, Stronghead and Darkwalker will both need augmentic surgery before they will be able to continue.” She stated as she returned the pack to its original position, cord tightening to remain out of the way.
“Let’s get to defensive positions” Shadowview replied hearing a storm of confirmations in his helmet. However not a quarter dec went by before we heard the eastern sentry say
“Contact”
“How far out” Firstborn replied
“Just coming over that ridge” the fire warrior replied
“This could be a problem” he said with calmness that belayed mounting fear.
Both the Shas’ui brought up the video feed from the sentries’ helmets. A massive hoard of green skins came charging toward the outcropping, a half dozen or so trukks, a couple of battlewagons, a score of bikers, several or the odd flying contraptions that were referred to as deffcopters, and even a few of their flying machines sipping toward our out cropping at incredible speed.
“I’ve called for an extraction vehicle for Shadowview’s team; we’re going to need to slow them down somehow.” Said Firstborn
We took some pot shots at the enemy but for the most part we just conserved ammo until the orks got closer I fired marker light shots at the trukks but they were still too far out to do much. Not much after they came into effective range of our pulse rifles. Letting loose a massive salvo, dropping about half a dozen of the Orks. Shadowview’s team targeted one of the trukks. One pulse managed to get into the engine compartment stalling the trukk in its path. Firstborn’s team entered in shortly after, the advanced tracking system controlling the burst cannons sensing the orks were close enough for the burst cannons to be effective, the three rotating weapons sending out an impressive number of rounds. They were using the plasma rifles to reduce a few more of the orks number.
That was when they arrived. The Angels of Death, the Space Marines, they arrived in what I later learned were Drop Pods. Like a rain of doom they fell from the sky. Upon landing they disgorged their deadly cargo, guns blazing, firing into the hoard of orks. The a good deal of the space marine’s armor was black, and the lower legs, shoulder guards, the raised section of the helmet, and the vents of the pack were red, a member of each team had half his helmet painted in a dark blue, an animal’s head was painted on the left shoulder pad, the other had some form of arrow assumingly a team’s designation.
“There has been a development; the newcomers may possibly be allies, do not engage unless fired upon, and only fire on un-engaged Orks.” Said Commander Nightflier
“Confirmed” Replied Firstborn
The Ork were very confused, but that did not stop the ones close enough from attacking the new comers whole heartedly. There were a couple of squads ready and willing to step into combat and well equipped to do so. There were other marines not from drop pods, a squad with what seemed to be a device similar to the jet packs used by our own battlesuits. One of Members had pure black armor with many scrolls and other such finery decorating his armor. In his right hand was a rod with a golden eagle at its end. But the most imposing part was the skull helmet. He was the epitome of an angel of Death, descending from the sky on a cloud of fire, appearing as if death itself had joined the battle. There were also four small skimmers, carrying lighter armored men. There were also a score of marines that came into the battle as if out of nowhere, appearing with an audible pop. The orks that charged where caught off guard by the steely coolness of the space marines fighting style, inflicting heavy casualties on the almost unarmored bodies. There seemed to be a dedicated assault marine in most units, at least the units that were not completely dedicated for such close quarters. One marine was in particularly ornamented armor and carried a large lightning sheathed blunt force weapon, later I discovered this it was called a thunder hammer, and it destroyed anything in path, no matter how thick its skull was.
The marines made short work of the rampaging Orks; several of the Marines had flamers and were disposing of the Orks with such a suitably charred end. Afterwards, the oriented marine with the hammer, led the group of marines up to our group.
“Thank you for your help, we are the Dragon Guard, and we are here to return this planet from the control of the Ork, back into the folds of the Imperium….
