Just finished playing a game of CSM vs CSM, during which occurred a situation I've never encountered before.

There was a square piece of terrain, which had a 90 degree corner. On one side of the corner, pressed closely up against the terrain piece was a Plague Marine unit. On the other side of the terrain piece was a 20-man cultist squad who were also pressed up against the piece.

Neither unit could see any of the other, but they were by all measurements less than 12" from eachother, we estimated a 6" gap.

The cultists charged the Plague unit, but did not roll far enough to reach the Plagues, so neither could see eachother.

Should the Plague Marines have been allowed to fire overwatch?
And if they had only been able to see a few (let's say 5) of the cultists, how many would they have been allowed to kill, assuming their shots hit?
Also, would any cover saves apply?

Sounds like the issue was that they were out of LoS, which means you couldn't have assaulted in the first place.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Huh. I though you could assult anything in range regardless of LoS. Any idea where the BRB/FAQ's say this?

There also seem to be the indication of a slight disconnect when it comes to timing.
Selym, are you aware of the fact that Overwatch is resolved BEFORE the charging unit rolls for its charge?

I was not. I shall be re-reading the BRB this evening to re-educate myself

I suspect that you won't have been the only people who missed the need for LOS on the charge This was a change that only came in this edition, and while it's been standard in Warhammer Fantasy since forever, it's never been required in 40K before.

seems like a lot of people miss that one, even though its in bold. Ive had people try to deny my orks from charging by charging me first, even though i was hidden for their turn from their point of view. (Not the only rule ive had issues of people missing that were in bold but those are other subjects)

Cant shoot, cant charge, easy way to figure that one out.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Yeah, you need at least model in line of sight of your enemy to declare a charge. Note that even if overwatch kills all models in line of sight, you can still continue the charge, as line of sight is only required for declaration.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!"
