Hey Dakka,

Tired of trying to make a 750 point blood angels list that is ''competitive''. Just trying to make one thats fun to play.

I've been given the scouts from the battleforce (no snipers) and I have no idea how to arm them.

The options are

4xBolters
heavy bolter
2x shotguns
4xCCW
combi weapon of any kind
Meltabombs or power weapon of any kind
I suppose 4xSniper rifles (boltguns with targetors or something)

The rest of my list is

Libby w/JP

10 Assault marines w/2xFL/PA

3 Bikes w/2xPG + MM Attack bike

5 Devastators w/3xML/LC.

I dont know what role to make the scouts. I would love to make them with a combi-flamer and shotguns/CCW's for taking weak troops off of objectives but I think I might be deluded as to how effective that may be. The other option is 4 or 5 snipers with a heavy bolter or camocloacks.....

What do you guys think?

Probably best to make them objective campers. Take five of em with sniper rifles (Just put some targeting device on their bolters) and slap on a Missile Launcher if you have it available. If not, a heavy bolter should suffice. The idea is they sit on your home objective and take potshots with their heavy weapon.

Not the most fun, but it covers the bases of most objective based game modes.

Snipers are probably the most generally useful option. CC scouts carrying teleport homer might be a good idea, but I see you have no terminators. I wouldn't bother with shotguns. Only advantage they have over bolters* is that you can assault after shooting with them; but if you're going to assault, then having two weapons is better in most cases. Some people disagree with this, but I'm not sure what they're assaulting with their scouts. If your scouts' average lifespan is more than one CC phase, the extra weapon is better than the shotgun.

(* and I wouldn't bother with bolters either. You're playing marines, you've got enough bolters. If you're going to shoot with your scouts, take sniper rifles.)

Converting the bolters to sniper rifles is the way to go. Find something to extend the barrel, slap a scope on the top and job done.

I would say snipers.

As stated above,.. park their bottoms on a objective and never let them leave..

Sniper rifles have good range, help against high toughness creatures and are rending. Give cammo cloacks for extra protection if you wish and voila.. For marine standards you have a cheap objective holding unit that can assist via long range where needed.

Perfect guys, thanks for the help. The consensus is Snipers. Will also give me a nice modeling challenge.

Thanks again

Don't forget to say pew pew when they shoot-it's been proven to improve the effectiveness of scout snipers

Blood Angel scouts can actually do something other than be snipers. Since they're the only army who can give their non-biker scouts locator beacons, you can use them as forward spotters for your Deep Striking units. A six inch bubble of immunity to Deep Strike scatter is a powerful thing. Sniper scouts are great, don't get me wrong, this is just an alternative to consider.

Non sniper scouts are good for if you want to try to use them to take objectives, rather then just sit on one. Scouts have infiltrate and stealth, which you don't normally see in a SM army. So you can try to move them up early, or outflank and try to grab an objective late. If you don't want to use tanks for whatever reason, they are a good way to give your army a shot of mobility.

And if you plan on moving, you need to look at the non sniper options.

Bolters you generally have plenty of in your army, but are not a bad option. If you plan on getting into CC, BP/CCW and shotguns both have their place. I personally like a mix, mostly for looks. If you know exactly what you are planning on charging, you can determine which one is better, but they are pretty much equal in my book.

What to give the sarge is a more difficult choice. He's going to be doing most of the heavy lifting in CC, so getting him a sword might not be a bad idea. On the flip side, a combi melta and the scout's deployment rules can make for a dead tank.

Your army is already plenty mobile. What you need is someone to sit at home camping an objective, so the rest of your force can advance and kill stuff. Which says snipers. If you were running more of a gun line, I might advocate a different option.

I do. I don't think they're terribly good though, but the have their uses. You can get them in combat really quickly, and against a squishier enemies they can disrupt them nicely. I mostly just like the look of them, though.

I will go for 4 bolters and a heavy bolter. I use that for holding objectives.

I play Scouts with bolters. Often they don't do very much, but with Linebreaker Outflanking them can win the game, and they seriously threaten a lot of armies' backfield objective campers.

The heavy bolter with the poisoned small blast could be situationally useful. Or the missile launcher.
