Good evening all,

I have moved from 40k and have picked a warmachine book.

My wife has just brought me a Galleon model which i am looking to have in a small 15pt list.

Now below are 2 lists which i like the look of as they incorporate my Galleon model, now big question is are they any good?

Casters: 1/1
Points: 15/15

Faction: Damiano - Free Company
Captain Damiano (*6pts)
* Buccaneer (3pts)
* Galleon (18pts)

Faction: MacBain - Soldiers of Fortune
Drake MacBain (*6pts)
* Buccaneer (3pts)
* Galleon (18pts)

Thanks for looking and any help you give me.

I know very little about Mercenaries, so I cannot make suggestions

but when you play a list this simple at low point games, your games will be very binary

Either the enemy list will be able to deal with your Colossal, and beat you essentially every time

or the enemy list will have no chance against your Colossal, and you will win essentially every time

Then again at 15 points, your list is super tight

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

If you just want to support the Galleon the best you can (Which is what your plan seems to be), I'd recommend Captain Bartolo Montador as the caster, and dropping the Buccaneer for Master Gunner MacNaile (since Bart only has +5 warjack points). But yeah, you are going to come up against something like Doomshaper, Mulg and an Earthborn eventually and they'll knock your Galleon apart. Then you are going to have other games where someone brings one heavy hitter, it gets trashed, and that is game short of a lucky assassination run.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

I don't understand, do you mean can other armies run their colossal's at 15 points? Everyone can technically, it's whether it'll be any fun that is the question

Meh. 15pts is just kind of Skew-y anyway, a Galleon is just kind of one way for that play out.

In general I'll agree it's probably not the most representative way to introduce yourself to the game. That is to say 15pt games /w a Collosal probably is rather unlike most other Warmachine experiences. However, so long as you know in knowing going in the game pretty much hinges on if they're either packing a mean debuff or have dedicated their entire list to armor busting you can still have fun with it.

You're just a hop skip & jump away from 35pts really, if you've already got a Galleon and a handful of other starting models. That's a points level that provides a bit more of a balanced experience for collosals.

Thanks form your help guys, i played a game last night and had so much fun playing with a friends retribution list that I have decided to trade a few models in and run the following list:

Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper (*7pts)

Banshee (10pts)

Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)

Mage Hunter Commander (2pts)

Mage Hunter Assassin (2pts)

I am hoping this list will be better than the 3 model merc list i was looking at

It will be a good list.. It will also be alot more fun to play then with 3 models.

Collosals at least IMO are best used in 50pts and on occasion 35.

I think this will be my final 15 point list, i have been looking at the models for Protectorate of Menoth and really like the Harbringer.

Harbinger of Menoth (*5pts)

Devout (5pts)

Exemplar Cinerators (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)

Knights Exemplar (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)

Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord (2pts)

What do you all think?
