Subject: help with point cost for custom Razorback?
|

So i'm hoping for an idea for the point cost of a custom razorback. It's just a rhino with 3 TL bolters (Hurricane bolters) on a sponson on each side. Due to sponson design, they have about 45* firing arc to the left and right respectively. The only special rule I would want is the ability to fire each sponson at separate targets. Keep in mind that I lose the 2 side exit options.
So, ideas for point costs?
my local shop does allow for custom rules/vehicles in casual play, and I have no intention of playing in a tournament with this.

base razorback is 40
pair of hurricane bolters is 30
for the special rule, I think between 15-20 pts, most likely closer to 20
this also leaves the TL heavy bolter, though if you drop that, use the special rule cost at 15
I think this makes sense, giving the vehicle a base cost of around 85-90 pts, plus all the options. I'm not sure what codex you use so i just went by the vanilla marine codex
hope this helps

I have a few ideas to help find the balance for points
a normal Rhino is 35 in the vanilla book
a razorback is 40 assuming it has a H bolter
however you want 2 hurricane bolters as sponsons, the rules for arc of fire in the rulebook is they have slightly more than 180* fire arc so that they cross over in front and behind the vehicle. Now you want them to be able to shoot other targets
I think we are looking at considerably more than a razorback but less than a predator destructor
assuming you want it to keep its 10 man capacity as it is a rhino I am thinking maybe 70-80 points as it needs to be more than a razorback as it has more shots and more transport capasity, but less than a predator destructor as it has les shots (at non rapid fire range) and less armour, I would go closer to the 80 point mark and go from there, see how it plays out and ask for review from the people you play, at the end of the day it is still a AV11 tank that will die easily, but it can do anti light infantry very well, I also think it will look really weird as a model.
hope this helped a bit.
Edit due to crap grammar.

I think he'll be using the Storm Raven's Hurricane Bolters, limiting their range of movement to about the front 45 degrees.

correct, i'll be using the Storm Raven Sponsons. No turret at the top, i'll leave the storm bolter as an option as a regular razorback has. Only forward arc of 45* to the left and right. The reason I want the ability to shoot the hurricane bolters at separate targets is that unless i'm shooting directly ahead, I'd only be able to bring one sponson to bear. As a Razorback, i'd be limited to cargo capacity of 6 per normal rules.
I was thinking no more than 50 points, maybe 40 like normal razorback. I lose exiting out the side on the vehicle, and shooting at 270* of firing arc. I gain the ability to target each sponson separately, and as there is no turret, I think I would regain the ability to use the top hatch as 2 fire points.
What might a good name for this Razorback variant be?
Thank you all for the input, as it makes me think deeper about the conversion.
Now if I went for a Predator, +30 for hurricane bolters fair? losing all carry capacity of course, or maybe just a capacity of 1 model?

if it is only 45* fire arc I can see it being a bit cheaper if it has a 6 man capacity and the guns I would say 40 points, if it had a 10 man capacity it would need to be about 50-55, 10 points for a hurricane bolter that can shoot separately seems fair to me in exchange for not getting out the side (not a big deal anyway)
