Ok single FOC, tau with gk allies for tournie so looking to be strong. Let me know if I have something or just plain garbage

Simple plan, Deathstar walks up to hold mid-feild, while tau lay on a tonne of shooting and supporting fire.

I like it actually I think you have gone a little overboard with your shad'el and his upgrades drop some and get feel no pain on your pallys. I would prob run targeting array, plasma, missile pods, hw multi tracker and target to on it.

Cool thanks for the help. I dont know much about tau, so way wondering if this list has any decent synergy. The paladin star will be so hard to kill, and should keep fire away from the supporting tau units. However I am not sure if I have enough bodies.

Flyer heavy lists could give me a hard time.

Im not aiming to win the tournie but would like to put in a good showing after recently being taken apart with my pure gk list.

What are peoples opinions on how well this list will do?

If your going with iridium armor(which is a solid choice) then take shield drones. Having 2+ armor chumps is why iridium is useful. Drop the shield gen, and take 2 different weapons(plasma and missle probably). The target lock is only needed if you run him in a unit, so consider dropping it(although hiding him in fire warriors is okay). Give em a multi tracker to fire both weapon systems. Consider a target array to make him BS5

Split the tetras, so you don't need the lock anymore. Also forces your opponent to split fire.

Unless you live in fear of losing a hammerhead to assaults, the flechette dischargers are overkill. Consider dropping a hammerhead for a broadside team for the 'el to hang out with.

The warding staff is not really worth it on a non character model. Somebody who can be put in a challenge, sure, but otherwise no. Consider getting a techmarine for rad/blind grenades in the squad. He can also bolster defenses that your fire warriors will hide in.

I would skip the Hammerheads and take Broadsides instead.
Your Hammerhead build is 170.
Let's compare to a Broadside squad.
2 Broadsides, one Team leader = 145pts. Give the Leader Hard-wired drone controller, hard-wired black sun, two shield drones, hard-wired multi-tracker, hard-wired target lock (43). Give the Broadside multi-tracker (5).
Total, with upgrades: 193.

This is more expensive than your Hammerhead, but it has several advantages.
1. The squad cannot blow up with a lucky Damage roll (although it can run off the board).
2. It has a 4++ on the two shield drones.
3. It has TWO railguns, instead of one, and they are both TWIN-LINKED! The TL will help against Flyers.
4. The railguns can shoot at different targets, which is a potential two kills per round, as opposed to only one from the Hammerhead.

So, imagine two of these Broadside squads (386), instead of three Hammerheads (510). You gain an extra Railgun, can kill four targets per turn, and have one less KP to give to the enemy. (This would also free up some points in your list for a Paladin Apothecary and Psybolts,)


Of course, since the new Tau codex is coming out soon, depending on when your tourney is, this discussion could be pointless.

The tourney will be using the current tau codex so that sounds like a good plan to me
