The rust was done by dusting generous amounts of Vallejo pigment powders into the cracks and crevasses, then fixed them in place by flowing white spirit (or as my can says odorless mineral spirits), and letting it dry, then I fixed it with dullcoat.

An uncharacteristically dark and understated model, for 40k. I quite like it, though - both realistic and menacing.

I forgot to mention I airbrushed Tamiya gloss clear over it before adding the powders...

Out of curiosity, what is the function of the gloss coat pre-powder?

EDIT: Nevermind. I just looked up what "white spirits" was. I'm guessing then that the gloss coat is to protect the plastic/paint against from the solvent.

Exactly. I also did an oil wash, which can also damage the finish

The dang thing never makes it past turn 2, so it at least better look menacing...
