So even in the Infinity Wiki I couldn't find a good overview of how each of the factions plays. I was thinking of getting a starter force (admittedly mostly to paint) but maybe I can get two and convince some people to try it out with me. So for myself I tend to like either fast hit and run type armies (like fantasy wood elves) or fragile but long range units (like Tau from 40k) do any of the factions really play like that? Really just a short overview of the factions would be immensely helpful.

The problem is that pretty well every faction can do pretty well every playstyle in Infinity, just by choosing different units and using them appropriately.

Here's an overview I wrote a while ago, so it's missing the new Tohaa faction: http://wargamingtrader.com/infinity/intro1

Yep. Faction choice is 95% aesthetic so go with what looks coolest. The other 5% is worth considering though. Nomads are more hacker orientated, Aleph tend towards less, more elite troops. Links like IJW's are worth check out for that stuff. There is some great stuff in the Beginners sticky too.
