Hey everyone,
Been painting miniatures for quite a while, but have never done the whole blog/painting log thing, or even posted photos of stuff I've done online. Well, with the recent start of two (or three...stay tuned!) new projects, I decided to dig out my camera and fiddle with it until I got some decent pictures. Hope you guys enjoy! I'll be updating this regularly!
I've done Warhammer for a very long time, but started up some Privateer Press stuff recently and am really enjoying it. An army of 25 models? Those nice, big bases? Sounds great! That being said...something that really irked me about a lot of the Warmachine warjack's are the stubby, squatting legs...
The Hunt
I picked Protectorate for my first army, liking quite a few of the models and wanting to challenge myself by painting a 'white' army (not sure how well this is going...) Reading about some army ideas online, I settled for the 'Crazy Dervish' army of Amon Ad-Raza and multiple dervishes. Not wanting three of the same outdated metal model in my army, I grabbed a light jack and started chopping...
Pretty pleased with how he came out. I want all three to be very dynamic looking, as if they are side-stepping in the moment. The leg joints are nasty to try and reposition, and I'm hoping that I can cover up the cuts on my other models with a bit more finesse. Now, a lot of this army probably isn't tournament legal by conversion rules, but...eh. I only play casually. The smoke on these models is magnetized; each smoke stack has a magnet that attaches to a billow of smoke- in games one piece of smoke represents one assigned focus
I had first done a dirty, wartorn look on these guys before going back to a cleaner look. I'm probably going to be redoing the robes on this choir member to remove the 'grease' effect I had done, but I am pretty pleased with how his scroll came out. Was nervous to paint it!
The theme of this army revolves around a young, wealthy prince of Menoth with a wicked temper. After losing a very expensive gamble to a Cygnaran general, he purchases an army with his father's money and vows revenge- and in the tradition of his lineage, declares that he'll hunt the general and claim his head, and his lost prize. I'll be using Amon Ad-Raza's rules, but will try and find a model that's less macho.
A second list for Menoth that I'm going to be doing will be based around Severius's and an Avatar of Menoth. The story behind it is a high-ranking priest working to recover holy relics, who in a remote temple ruin uncovers a sealed vault...and an ancient warjack prototype of mysterious origin...
This is the
WIP start of the Avatar- pretty simple, as I basically want to get as far away from the stubbby, heavily adorned Avatar model we already have. Aiming for something more simple and 'human' looking.
So, for the rest of this army I'll have two more dervishes, a heavily converted Blood of Martyrs, likely some Zealots...not sure yet. I've got the rest of the choir to do, some Exemplar guys, Vilmon, and some Errants. Just going by what models I love.
Beyond the Wall
The second army I'll be keeping track of here is actually my friend's Khador army that I'm painting up for him. We're both big into car modification as well, and after showing him this car at SEMA 2011, I think he fell in love the military green colour.
So let's do an army like that! Drab. Draaaaaaaab. Not sure if I love it- but it does look menacing. I don't know a lot about the models, but Khador is great to paint. Very easy. The bases on these guys need some work; we're undecided if we should do them more wintery or not- snow might be an option! We're also scoping out some decals for the blank areas of the warjacks- some World War 2 types of things.
The following two goons are one chassis with all the options magnetized. I had never done magnetizing prior to this, and though it
can sorta be a pain...it's perfect for this game system. I really like this model.
These guys were a bit of a hassle to paint- especially that champion's face...still something I'm not great at! The swords could maybe use a bit of highlight, but my friend doesn't want them to stick out too much.
Also, that champion...has anyone else noticed that he looks a little bit like...
...Jon Voight in Anaconda? Once you see it, it can't be unseen. I apologize. Also, great movie to sit and have in the background while painting.
And one work in progress of the unit I'm doing up now. These guys are cool!
So, I've got another 25 or 30 points of the Khador to finish, and a whole lot of Menoth. I've picked up another starter box as well (hint, the army rhymes with the name of my all-time favorite band, Styx) and am quite liking the look of Skorne, as well...too many models! Hope you guy's enjoy looking at these, I'll post more soon!
