Didn't read this book yet, all I have heard is that it is essentially Raven Guard vs. Tyranids.

Now I came upon this comment today regarding this book: "You have civilians destroying a moon of their own planet in Helion Rain as they had bad targeting systems. They wanted to shoot Tyranid ship that was as big as their moon. And this were only civilians!!"

What kind of weapon would they have that is strong enough to blow up a moon?

The universe has many horrors yet to throw at us. This is not the end of our struggle. This is just the beginning of our crusade to save Humanity. Be faithful! Be strong! Be vigilant!

I've listened to helion rain, but I can't answer the question.

Isn't "big ass gun" an acceptable answer?

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

It's not anwsered in the audio. But probably some big ass torpedo, or a maybe a big ass linear type gun previously used to shoot mined stuff into orbit?

Cyclonic Torpedoes are capable of shattering entire planets, as are mega-melta bombs. These are two of the many weapons the Inquisition has at its disposal for committing Exterminatus on a world.

Thanks guys.

Imperium should be technology backwards society, and here we have civilians use weapon that can destroy planets - CIVILIANS.

I am just amazed AM didn't exploit this, regarding this... the fact that civilians use it shuld meant this gun can be used by everyone not only AM. So why don't they have this kind of weapon at every planet?

This is why I wanted to know this. I guess we will never know... Thank you anyway guys

Having listened to the audio, I have to argue against a few things.

Who said anything about weapons being in the hands of civilians? Most worlds have some form of standing military in the form of their PDF, whose quality and resources can vary as wildly as Imperial Guard regiments. Who's to say that it wasn't simply combined fire from planet-based cannons or missiles that had mis-targeted? There's no mention at all of a single bomb or missile being the cause of the moon's destruction. The only description of the weapons used are that they are inferior to some standard for surface-to-space weaponry. And even if it was some single super weapon, who's to say that this wasn't the only one of such weapon on the entire planet? That it was kept locked away for only the most extreme of circumstances? Who's to say the moon isn't half or even a quarter of the size of Earth's moon, thus making such destruction far more prone to causing instability? There's far too many questions to try and draw any inference regarding the weaponry the planet had prior to the tyranid invasion.

Thanks for the additional info, I am just surprised that Imperium has this kind of weapon. The share power of it puts even Tau to shame.
As for the size of the Moon I think I can answer that, they destroyed the moon because they confused him with the Tyranid Hive Fleet. And Tyranid Hive Fleets are huge by default, so the moon could be Earth size Luna easily.

IoM have the 40k monopoly on on WMDs.

Exterminatus, Nova Cannons, Warp Torpedo, Warp Missiles, Virus Bombs and several other planet killer weapons.

Tau don't use the WMD tactics in their doctrines, preferring to kill inhabitants if they can't turn them to the Greater Good with surgical precision.

Apart from the Tyranids, and the Necrons one bit of tech that lets them destroy stars, the IoM is the single-most destructive faction in the galaxy, and have more patterns of weapons than the Tau Empire has citizens.
