Hey so I just finished readin the book betrayer with Angron and Logar in it. I found what they where saying very... dumb at best lol.
The thing that is bugging me is the part where Angron almost kills Russ, then they state Angron should of learnt a lesson because he almost killed Russ then Russ crawled away like a .... whimp and his men had to help save him. This was suppose to be a lesson for angron how now? They said in the book because it shows how Russ crawling around in the mud shows Angron how his men would lose a war to save his worthless life. Then none of Angrons came to save him frrom russ's sqaud.
In my opnion it showed Angron was right and Russ was proven wrong. Angron would have killed Russ. Russ's men would have lost the fight trying to save his worthless life, Angron would have died but his men proved they did not need to be lead they where all ready to do what needs to be done. So 2 primarchs die and then one legion are lost puppies and will be kulled off.
So is it just me or is GW making these primarchs seem like little...... so far I think 6 needed to be saved and 2 had to be kulled off. So much for better then the rest.

It's more a fact of the World Eaters not being like an Astartes army should be. The Wolves have loyalty to Russ, whereas the WE don't care about anything but the fight at hand. The Wolves see the larger battle, they are loyal to their Primarch and will not let him fall. They are the superior warriors, the WE are just scrappers that don't care.
Russ has a better, more loyal, more disciplined force and he does his job. Angron just does what he wants and doesn't see the bigger picture. They may win the battle, but the Wolves are winning the war.

Thats not true they even said in the book that the wolves fell back to help Russ and in doing so lost the battle and would of lost their primarch and would be disheartned. The WE wouldn't they would just finish the kill. So the wolves would of lost the battle the war and everything if Angron died and the WE decided to finish the mut's off.

As I understood the scene, Angron was standing over the beaten, crawling body of Russ, but he was in turn surrounded by a ring of wolves that were ready to execute him before he finished off Russ. The world eaters were lost to the nails and doing their usual thing elsewhere.
I think Buca is right. Russ may have lost the battle, but he demonstrated to Angron that he had the loyalty of his legion, and the tactical prowess to overcome Angron's combat ability via the support of his boys in grey.
That being said, Angron beat the poo out of Russ, and Russ came off looking like quite the wuss.
Go World Eaters.

I read it a more like the Wolves lost the battle because they werent fighting to win. Russ was trying to teach Angron a lesson about being a true Astartes. Dont think Russ really meant to kill as much World Eaters as he could, they were still both loyal at that time and fighting for the Imperium. Its a bit out of context, why did they start the battle? Did they offend the World Eaters that badly, because they dont seem to be that unhinged to just start fighting from what you read in the book. Still good job for the World Eaters, they won.

Not even half way through this yet but it seems as if burning hatred and giving in to the nails can create such violent and unpredictable actions in the WE that their sheer savagery can often overcome sounder tactics.
There's a great quote though by a writer called Alexander Pope: "For fools rush in where angels fear to tread."
That seems to sum up the WE.

It's funny that, apart from the WE librarians, Khârn is probably the most level-headed warrior in the legion.

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."
Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan
