This came up in a game yesterday, and I'd like to see what the view of RAW is from others.
In the mission the Scouring we all know that fast attack choices can score, no debate there. The question comes up on how flyers score. Page 80 tells us that a flyers base is effectively ignored, except for when:
1. The flyer is being assaulted in which case models may move into contact with the vehicle's hull, its base or both.
2. Models are embarking or disembarking from the flyer, in which case the base of the flyer is used as an access point.
Those are the only two times the flyers base is not ignored. The question arises, can a zooming flyer control or even contest an objective?
We know already that switching to hover makes the vehicle a fast skimmer, but the base is still ignored at that point. So unless the objective is on a higher level in a ruin can flyers hold an objective since their bases are ignored, and therefore we must measure to the hull? Remember the hull sits several inches off the table, raising an objective is the only way to get it closer to the hull.

the tounaments and everyone i played with goes with the rules that measurments from fliers are taken from the hull.
even tough going into hoover you are a skimmer wich in same case you measure from the hull.

They can score fine, but you have to measure to/from the hull. For most flyers this means the only way to easily do it is for a flat objective (not all objectives are flat, of course) to be raised; on a hill, second floor of a ruin, or something. Not in all cases, though. For example, the wings of a Heldrake frequently hang within 3" of the table with normal modeling.

In this case you need to measure to the Hull of they flyer, not th base. Due to the height of most flyers this is quite tricky.

Unless you think ahead and place objectives up in ruins, or other elevated spots, scoring with a flyer is tricky

If you've got a FA flyer in your list and are playing The Scouring, or a HS flyer in your list and are playing Big Guns, it would seem to be obvious that you need to place at least some objectives up high. Not exactly an advanced tactic.
