Question for those who had a taste of the Edge paint line - what is it all about, how does it look/handle/taste?
What niche in the process do they fill?
Obviously, preference is for objective evaluations

i think they are just light bright highlighting tones to save adding white to other colours.

They're just really light coloured layers. They didn't need to make them a new line, but they're mostly for masterclass painters or centerpieces/showpieces. I can see someone using Blue Horror on some Tzeentch army.

It's just a brighter shade of paint to highlight the darker colors. Despite what GW wants you to believe, there is nothing magical about their paint. If you're going to highlight, just add some white or yellow to the darker color and that's it.

It's not just GW, Reaper has their 3-tone system as well. My biggest thing is color consistency. I can't guarantee I'm mixing at the same consistency everytime, and if I am trying for a uniform look for a large group, I will always buy the lighter tone versus mixing.

That's my personal preference.

The 'Edge' range would also be extra-high-pigment, I presume? I'd have thought that would be important, as we hardly want to be applying multiple edge layers.

They are nothing more than the 'dry' colours repackaged as normal paint.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

The Works sell mixing pots for your own concoctions-cant remember if its 10 or 12 for £1.

Technically they are Layer Paints, just in the 9 colour tones of the Dry Paint range. I need some of them, but not everyone will need these pastell colours.

The Gauss Green looks awesome, that was the one I wanted to get this weekend. I went to my local GW/Hobbytown store and they didn't have any in. I asked the 'comic book guy' working there if they plan on ordering any. He said that they came in a box set with a crappy brush and that they were limited edition. I showed him the email on my phone that GW sent out this weekend showing that the edge paints are being released individually. He said that he never needs to use them and pointed to his unbased ultramarines on display in the cabinet.

I decided to order them online.

Since they are pastel, I figure if they suck I can at least paint some easter eggs with them.
