Wyrd was dually bold and brought both Nathan Caroland to the booth and blessed us with -non marketing types- in the panel discussion. Both great decisions in my opinion.
The big take away is a program they floated out called "Passport to Malifaux" which is an organized play redemption program for players that is driven by henchmen, but also(suggested and received well) validated by FLGS owners. Most of the drive behind the FLGS validation was due to the heartache retailers felt from yearly poor sales around the gencon releases and they wanted a way to combine access to cool limited edition models to community participation and building throughout the year. Everything on this is intentionally open ended and not set in stone... Nathan made sure to make a point of that.
The RPG is on track for release, and the presenters were the actual design team for the RPG. They did not get heavy on the mechanics, and nothing much more indepth than the kickstarter revealed. They reiterated that it would run on a deck based mechanic, and feature a player perspective of a an opportunist making his way though the rift into Malifaux for a litany of reasons.
Lots of questions were asked about availability of mini-rulebooks and potential refresh of that product. Lets just say the second query was a question that required a more developed and less revealing answer. One of the few dodges of the panel, but clearly something is in works. Also it seems that although unannounced, new/updated crew box sets seem to be in work and in plastic.
A summer campaign is in works, they said an announcement will be made very soon on it.

Excellent news, thought Nathan and Eric are rare to hide from the public eye
The passport to Malifaux is not a "new" thing, I mean it's still not out yet, but they gave stickers away at GenCon last year and said, "hold on to these, it's for this new Passport to Malifaux thing we're starting."
Glad that Mack and Justin were there as part of the RPG crew.
I wouldn't expect an update rules manual until Rulebook 1.5 has been out for more than a year (so maybe a 2014 GenCon release? The updated crew box sets in plastic is awesome, gives me a reason to repurchase some.
Thanks for the news man

Thanks for the news, but what do you mean by poor yearly sales around gencon? Do you mean that B&M stores are complaining that Wyrd's GenCon exclusives are encouraging people to buy from Wyrd itself and thus hurting Malifaux sales in B&M stores?

I think its partially to do with Wyrd prereleasing items from the new book in thier webstore over that weekend, so when the actual release date rolls around, many people will have already purchased it.

I know I'm not very up to date with rumours when it comes to malifaux but, do I read that right if I read it as "They will be making the old boxed sets into plastic aswell"? If so anyting more information on that, I was planning to seriously expand my Guild force with 3 extra crews but I might just stick to buying a few TT crews while waiting for old boxes to be redone .

Yeah, and even though there are some of us that own some of the old boxes it might prompt us to buy the plastic remake. I'm looking at my Rasputina box, and I'm just sad at how static that box is. I would love to get a better looking Ice Golem and Gamin.

Quite, i remember the aggravation of the thin legs on those gamins when I tried to pin them to a resin base. When Rasputina gets redone I would indeed replace the original set.
Though, maybe it's been answered before and all but how will they do that with the seperate availability of the models in the old boxes, will they simply disappear and it'll be a case of "just buy the whole starter box"? As the normal models from the TT crews aren't available seperately it would seem.

They've stated before that they no longer will piece out the "unique" models in the starter boxes. That meant you couldn't get the alt sculpt masters, and like you can't get Sidir outside of the McCabe box. But with the non character minions, you rarely need more than what comes in the box, and a lot of times you don't need those models outside of the master they come with. Like Illuminated are decent, but their ability to pass around brilliance is limited outside of a Jakob Lynch crew...

Wow, plastic boxed sets are exciting. There are a number of old ones that look great, but also ones where they're showing their age. (Also, a few that I think aren't good starter sets, that I hope they change)

They seem to be putting each master's totem in their respective boxed sets. For that reason alone, I'd expect the boxed sets to change their contents. With some like Ramos, I'd expect the Electrical Creation to also come in his box. With some like the Steampunk Arachnids where you need/want a gigaton, I'd expect them to be available separately as well.

I don't see them getting rid of the metal spiders because you need so many , but we'll see... And idk about the Electrical Creation... I believe he's currently the only one that can make one, but the issue is, do they put the mobile toolkit in there, or the brass arachnid

Brass Arachnid is Ramos-exclusive and only he would take it. In fact, if you're getting a Brass Arachnid, chances are you only need/want one and you're doing it because you have Ramos. Hence it makes sense to put it in his starter.
Mobile Toolkit could actually work well as a separate kit. Maybe add it to some pack that includes new units for both Ramos and Hoffmann can use.
Do note that the McCabe set included an 'extra' model of McCabe dismounted. It'd make sense for sets such as Ramos to include an Electrical Creation as an 'extra' model as well.
I believe it may be in Wyrd's best interests to produce standalone models that are compatible with multiple masters or standalone models that you would want multiples of. Ramos uses Steampunk Arachnids, but having those models available only in his boxed set would be an annoyance for new players. I find occasional use of my 6 lone arachnids and 2 full swarm bases.
Likewise, it'd be an annoyance to put in models into a master's boxed set that you'd want to run outside of that set. The Viktorias' set comes with Steamfitter Johan. Johan also happens to fit in unsually well with Arcanists and especially/arguably Collette. Collette players shouldn't be required to get the Viktorias set in order to get Johan.
Right now, as-is, the metal models work decently in a financial sense if Wyrd wants to make the model available in a boxed set or as a standalone. With the shift to plastic, boxed sets are going to get much more complicated.

The one mini I'm gutted about being boxset only is Ototo as he'd work really well in a Yan Lo crew but I do get Izamu so give and take and all that!
I'd welcome the change to plastic but I'm not sure I'd buy anything that I already have. That said, I do plan on getting the remaining Alt sculpts (already have McM) of the Resser Masters to use when I field their Avatars (and Betty of course). But then again, I am a fikel sort, so who knows!
Roll on Book 5 I say!

I'd quite like to see Wyrd take a break on the books and give the game a bit of breathing space. Not even got around to book four yet (thought three was a waste personally) and the yearly supplements is getting a bit too much to follow casually.
If they released something different, like a campaign/career mode or non master led crew choices, it'd be good. Another book of minions and masters would be a pass from from me again.

I have to agree there, I'd rather they took a short break for a bit with bringing out books. Still haven't gotten round to all 4 books yet. I actually have to read book 3 still. It is a bit much for casual play (though, it also depends on the people you plasy with ofcourse) to keep up with properly.
On the topic of plastics, I wonder how they will do it with the models like the spiders or sheishin where you need more than in the box. Granted, it's only a few crews that have that. Biggest thing is, I just realized, do I want to wait for new poses expecting them to be better than the current ones or take the gamble

I don't find the book a year release to be too fast. In fact, I'm wishing they did 2 a year like Privateer Press... It's April, and there are... maybe 4 models from Book 4 that need to be released, and 1 model from Book 3. I wish they had something to give the last half of their year a kick in the pants to push them right into GenCon.

Yeah, personal preference I guess. Maybe I'm just getting old and all . I have trouble keeping up with releases for various systems throughout the year, and hell, now it'll get even worse with warzone knocking on the door again. Maybe it's time to cut down on the amount of games I play...
Oh, the luxury problems we have.

I had a chance to play an early version, but not any of the recent updates. It is very quick and a whole lot of fun. Plays very quick and will make a nice addition to fit in between tournament rounds of Malifaux.

I will probably pick up a deck (or set, since it sounds like 2 decks in a set) to use as a Fate deck and have in case someone is looking for a quick game. For me its really a true side game rather than something I will be searching out people to play with.

I'll have to see... I'll probably pick up a malifaux themed set as well simply because I'm a whore for fate decks... It's probably why they were looking for an Anime/Manga artist about a month or so ago.

Hmm. interesting.
skimmed through Wyrd Chronicles 5, a couple things that I didn't see answers to...
1- Puppet Wars: is there anything around for those of us who bought in to the first edition?
2- the campaign seems weird for armies that rely on a lot of sacrificing/killing your own pieces (hamelin, some resurrectionists, leveticus especially)... did I miss something? Besides modifying counter drops, it seems like a sacrifice-oriented crew would wrack up wounds and death really quickly...
edit: oops, hamelin is actually covered remarkably thoroughly, meaning he'll have effectively no attrition... weird.

Was corrected over on the wyrd forums, looks like the player that destroyed the model can cheat the permanent damage flip... still a bit risky but markedly less so.
