I need some modern or SF looking pilots and passengers to put into 1/48 scale aircraft. Most kits come without any pilots.

I know about the Belgium producer... http://www.pj-production.be/fr/9-figurines-1-48, which I can order easily but they do not have a lot of variation.

Does anyone know any other places to get suitable pieces?

Military, civilian?

Hasegawa and Fujimi both do sets of modern military pilots in 1/48 scale. They include other members of the flight crew (and carrier deck crew for the ones which are naval aviators). Not too difficult to convert them from standing to sitting - especially if they will be sitting in a model aircraft where the bottom half of their body will be obscured.

There have been a lot of small run kits over the years for things like Star Wars, BSG and other pilots. Also, take a look at Gaso-Line (don't have the link handy). They are a French company that specialize in 1/48 scale models and have a pretty good selection of figures - though I am scratching my head to think of whether or not it includes pilots as well.

It doesn't really matter if civ or military. I can use both.

I've seen the Hasegawa kits but want to avoid the hassle of converting the figures, especially as I am making aircraft with large bubble canopies for visual effect. However it may be the only thing.

Here is the Gaso-line site... http://www.gaso-line.eu/gaso-line.htm

It is new to me so thank you.

Even if they don't have aircrews there are some other good things there.

The Hobby Master figures are generally used in their diecast vehicles - so they tend to be a bit chunky. You can normally find them from the Chinese dealer easily enough through eBay - so check there as well. I would see about getting one to start with, as if they are the ones I am thinking of - the arms are actually molded into the lap and all the rest of that that is common with diecast "prop" figures.

I am not too sure if you had looked closely at the Hasegawa kit, but there are 3 seated pilots in it already (both the A and B kits...one is naval, the other is land). Granted, that still does give you 15 or 16 other figures (another 3 of which are pilots IIRC) which are not seated...but they retail for the same price as the Hobby Master pilots do.

Preiser would be the other place I would take a look at (figuren.de or something like that for the company site - lots of catalogs in PDF files). We have been having supply issues with them here in the US, but in the UK - you might have better luck. They actually have three different lines of figures which might be helpful for you - their O Scale figures which are scaled at 1/45 scale (split the difference between British O Gauge and US O Gauge), their 1/50 scale architectural figures and their 1/48 scale military modeler figures. You can get them prepainted or in the raw and they are hard polystyrene plastic, so that is a plus for some people.

A lot of the civilians would double up easily enough whether they are riding in a train car or riding in the back of a Huey. Detailing is actually pretty good on them - and if you go ahead and get the bulk packs of figures, the price point gets down to around $1 per figure. Ones that you can't use for this project can be turned around and sold off (always have railroaders looking for little people) or held onto till you have a need for them (make pretty good survivors or zombies with a little bit of work - is she running to catch a train or running from a zombie?).

On the Gaso Line site - click the dealers and find the Quarter Inch Store or Quarter Inch Kit or something like that. It is a store that specializes in 1/48 scale models and should also offer some additional options you might not have heard of.

Also, check out 1999.co.jp - they are another site like HLJ who deals with kits from that side of the world. They have an English version...so be sure to locate the flag if you don't read Japanese. They have a lot of overlap with HLJ - but they also carry some things which HLJ doesn't (and of course sometimes things which are out of stock at HLJ will be in stock with them). There were two lines of 1/48 scale figures that were pilot sets for various mecha. I think one was for Votoms...the other is slipping my mind right now. Each box was 5 different pilots in two poses (sitting and standing). I wish I could give more info on those - but I am away from the house so I don't have them handy to see who the manufacturer was or part numbers.

Awesome leads -- many thanks!

The mecha pilots could be great.

Will these fit on 40k vehicles? I have a Landspeeder Storm I'm planning on converting to fit Infinity aesthetics, but the pilots look too odd compared to the models so I haven't used them. Also planning on buying a Dark Talon and Valkyrie but... same problems: the pilots are way out of proportion.

Have you tried Verlinden? They have a few pilots, a variety of ground crew, and other accessories in 1/48 scale.

Yep, PK is pretty good. The sculpting is excellent and the casts are normally very clean.

Some of their smaller options (hats and helmets for example) are a little on the rough side...but they clean up well. Full figures, weapons and vehicle kits though usually only have a little flashing that cleans easily.

Is the valkyrie kit too obvious?

Is that a GW kit?

The models I am building are 1/48 scale and probably won't accommodate GW size figures.

It's 40K Imperial Guard, so not as 'heroic' scale as Space Marines etc.
