Subject: Purchasing from Wayland games from AUS - worth it?

Hello all!
I'm debating if I should purchase the remainder 50% of my IG army off the wayland games website and im wondering what kind of
service they have towards Australia? i save so much money and im wondering about the packaging/quality of service?
So, if anyone has experience towards wayland games (in particular, living in AUS) about how long it takes? is it reliable? etc. it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Murray
ps. I've just recently come back into the hobby and i used to purchase hobby material from maelstrom games, apparently they have gone up for liquidation? or something? shame..

I don't think they're allowed to sell to anyone in Australia any more. A friend of mine also ordered some stuff from them and hand to get it refunded.

Ever since the embargo they haven't been able to sell to us. For awhile they were talking about a legal loophole to be able to get product to us but... well after the embargo I swore to never buy from GW at australian prices. I haven't bought anything since, only exception being a few things from Ebay and trades here on Dakka. EDIT: There is another way though. Costs more than it would to get it directly, but still cheaper than getting here in Oz. There are places that will accept a shipment from you that's in the EU, then re-ship it to you. So you buy from wayland, put your address as theirs, and they send it direct to you after they receive it. Never used one myself, but I believe a few people here on this board have.

Only used them once. 2 Dreads and 2 cans of red spray. Waited 4 weeks as they only had one can in stock. Eventually they sent both cans of red but only 1 Dread with a refund and the box was badly squashed.
This is a one off though and I'm sure others have had better luck with them. It's put me off using them for a while, not sure if I'd trust them shipping to Oz

GW can't do much against independent retailers except frown at them, so you can still buy from places like bitzbarn.

I've used wayland without problems in the past. They don't do GW to AUS anymore though as others have said.
However,
There are several ebay vendors with really good discounts. If its a one off box of minis you won't see much of a saving because of the shipping. If you get most of any army in one order you can save upto 50% off Aus GW prices.
Other options are the Dakka swap shop here, or similar ones on Australian based forums.

can someone explain this "embargo" to me because in canada i order stuff from the states all the time at a massive discount and it arrives no problems so far.
how can GW stop this? Is it different in AU?
is it the post office that is supposed to sieze these packages or what is going on exactly?

Basically GW says to the stores "If you want to be allowed to sell GW products you can't ship them to overseas buyers." Among other things.
So your store has to sign a deal with GW to get any product to sell, and part of that deal is an agreement to sell only to "authorised" buyers, namely people in your region.
The store is free to sell any GW stuff it gets to anyone it wants, and no one can stop that. But if they do, GW won't sell them any more GW products and they'll have to stop because they have nothing to sell.
And you're fine for now, but in the next couple of months (sometime in June if I remember right) the same clauses are being enforced in America. Enjoy your cheaper stuff while you can, it's on the chopping block.

Well, if you're playing Imperial Guard, just get Mantic Corporation models, which CAN ship to Aus from Wayland, is about 40% of the price and you could probably buy them locally as well.
They look awesome and you don't need to give GW any money.

I would feel slightly better buying it from uk/us, but honestly, have you seen the prices GW puts on australia? regardless, i wouldnt know any reputable chinese recasters.. or online stores in general (excluding a few aus ebay stores)

Buying from outside Australia is not illegal. Where on earth did you get that idea?
GW's trade terms prevent European sellers from shipping outside Europe. The new US terms will do the same for north America.
There are still options for Australians that don't involve buying illegal recasts, however. Ebay being the most obvious.

In fact, unless I'm mistaken, it's explicitly legal in Australia. Unless it's a car, or a book if I'm reading wikipedia correctly. Also completely legal in NZ.
