So

I have a guard army currently, but I love the idea of them being corrupted by chaos.

What I'm envisioning is a main detachment of IG, with chaos allies, who have persuaded the guard that they can do more to protect their local sector with the gifts if the dark gods. They are tired of being denied the assistance of the space marines and seeing their homelands pillaged and ransacked by the orcs, and so when the chaos arrive and offer their assistance in stemming the green tide, they warily accept. However, they are being slowly corrupted... The 'cultists' would be guard (as in taken from the guard codex as part of the main detachment) who have started to become corrupted faster. The chaos lord is devious and allows the guard commander to remain officially in command, as he knows if he directly took command people might start to realize the corruption. (Think jafar from Aladdin) this is why the company commander is still the warlord. And then I'll have a couple of squads of chaos marines as living "proof" of the powers the chaos gods grant to their followers. This show of power is really what is influencing the feeble minds of the guard

So what I'm wondering if it is possible to use the cultists from dark vengeance as IG that have been more corrupted than their fellow soldiers so far.

Additionally I was thinking maybe do up the dark angels as Fallen Angels to serve as a liason between the chaos and the more skeptical guard.

I haven't bought anything yet, and I was wondering about the feasibility of this if I should only buy the chaos part of DV or buy the whole thing.

Let me know your thoughts,

Thanks

Cultists, painted up, make the perfect traitor guard models, if you use the ones with guns (Though to be honest, it wouldn't matter too much with blob squads)

In fact, one of the champions in the cultists group, is an ex commisar, who is still wearing his commisar's coat, so making him a traitor commisar, is perfect

How would you recommend painting them? Also do you think it matters if they are holding autoguns instead of lasguns? Since I would be using them as las guns. Also I have plenty of extra las guns to give to the close combat squad.

And I love the idea of a traitor commissar

The majority of the models consists out of 2 parts so converting the weapon load-out is not that easy... On the other hand lasguns look like autoguns anyway so theres no need.
Btw many of the cultists wear cargo pants pretty similar to the Cadian ones so its very easy to put them into an already existing IG army. Maybe as conscripts or penal legion for the exta shot of fluffyness.
