So I've had the exact same HQ in the past 10 or so battles I've seen, its a big mek.

I was wondering, how big would he be by now? or does it take many battles to even gain 1 wound stat-wise?(yeah i know im mixing game mechanics and lore, but I'm curious).

I was also wondering how much bigger/stronger does a ork get per battle.

I'm thinking quite a bit, because boys rarely seem to last more than 2 battles, so I think if they last 2 they become a nob.

First off, we don't see everything that happens to an ork boy just on the table top. See a ork grows for killing something that is worthy of praise. Say a ork boy faces a space marine chapter master and kills him(Just go with it, weirder things have happened) He will almost automatically get praised for bein dead 'ard. This will make him grow. Now at the clans village, he will then have challengers come around and try to see if they are tuffer dan da space marine boss killa. If the boy survives these challenges, he will gain more respect and grow even faster. The more challenges he wins, the more orks respect him, the faster he grows. If all keeps going for him, he can grow into nob size in couple of months. Usually though it takes a couple of years.

Now then, you say, what if he dies in battle? Well luckily for the orks they have a really nice regenerative body. Only way to kill a ork for sure is to destroy the brain. Orks can indeed survive decapitation and can even be put back together. This brings their survivability up quite a bit.

To grow, it is not about surviving, it is about what you kill. The bigger, the tougher, the stronger the opponent, the more the orks grow. Your mek might grow considerable, from the fights, but usually for meks they grow more from what they build. The bigger things he builds the bigger he gets.

orkz are da best!!!

Not to mention, an Ork doesn't have to technically be bigger to be a boss. He just needs to be able to beat/kill all of the contenders. A particularly sly fighter, while smaller, could beat the larger current boss and take the mantle.

It's generally just the bigger Ork is the boss because he beats everyone because GW likes to think bigger is everything.

No, its in the ork fluff. Size denotes power to orks. Bigger = better. There is a passage in the Ork Codex where an Ork Boy decrys the human system and says that he can see why they are always fighting each other for power because they are all the same size so don't know who is in charge. It is always the bigger Ork who is the boss.

Note, however, that cause and effect are reversed from what you'd expect;

Bigger orks don't become bosses quicker.

Bosses become bigger orks quicker.

Indeed... that sly, runty Ork who kunningly kills all of his rivals will, by the time it's all over with, be da Biggest, Dead 'Ardest Boss around.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I actually did something like this a long while back. Mostly because I was a noobie. I had been given a secondhand battleforce as a gift and there was also an AoBR nob in the lot. The one nob looked bigger and I had never seen a warboss before and hadn't gotten a codex yet. So I called him "da boss". After a month of playing with the group I found a real warboss and swapped him out.

The group understood I was playing with a nob with counts as rules but the swap was explained as he "killed enuf stuff ta be da big-un boss" and Gubstop was born.

It's kool, but I was talking more along the lines of the Gargants, and battlefortresses, which I belive your Battle wagon should be if it is big enough.

Depends on the Boy in question. Ghazzy took less than a decade IIRC. But he was a special snowflake.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Read the book "Imperial Glory" it shows a ork on a primative world become a boss by basicly beating up all the other boyz. Its a pretty good read and its nice to have a book with an orks point of view that isn't over the top.

I suppose it depends on the ork, they dont really have a chain o command, its more or less structured like Marshall law(?) Who ever is the strongest is the leader, if i can kick ass then any one weaker then me im in charge of

To many unpainted models to count.
