Hello all! I feel that there should be a sub forum or a location somewhere on the internet for users that have 3D printers to exchange .STL files (the files used by most 3d printers). Or to discuss new ideas.

Does anyone know of such a place? I'm about to try and start making some conversions using my printer and I'd like to share the information I learn other than places like thingiverse.

This probably belongs in Nuts and Bolts.

Also a place to share .STL files probably wouldn't have much of a following yet, so a subforum isn't likely atm...

Thank you, i wasn't sure where to post it. 3D printers are decently popular now but I feel there may be legal ramifications to posting the STL files? For example i'm going to try to design and print my own Sabre platform substitutions. Would it be okay to post a link to them once I'm finished?

If the STL files include protected material, you could get Dakka and yourself in a lot of trouble.

I don't think that Dakka would be to keen on your hosting STL files of GW or FW models here.

If you sculpted or designed the original yourself, that's another issue.

Well it's extremely difficult and buggy to copy a Model in a 3d render still without expensive equipment so I would be designing the model from the ground up basing it to look similar to a GW model. Plus it will never look as good as GW model until the resin based 3d printers hit the markets.

I'm just saying, be careful to keep your stuff as generic looking as possible to avoid issues if you're going to be sharing files.

I've been thinking of this... Your best bet if you're using Dakka as your testing ground is to start a Painting and Modeling Blog in the P&M Blog section OR in one of the other P&M sections, just not showcase.
