Couldn't think of a title sorry for the non-creativeness. As I make different armies, I want to use those more and more but also want to use my old ones. Has anyone found a solution? I want to use my old armies but I like to take my new one. Does anyone have advices on how to like all the armies equally? Or just how not to feel like another's inferior.

My armies: Tyranid, Nurgle/Dark Eldar and (hopefully) a squig one. |

My solution is simply to stick to one army. Find an army you like everything about, an army you can see yourself sticking with and exploring every unit type and option. Stick with it, and avoid shiny syndrome. I do this with every game. I buy one army. I stick with it. Granted, for 40k, I have an old Salamanders army lying about, but it doesn't get touched. I'm done. I have the Chaos from Dark Vengeance as well - they won't get touched for a long time. I just stick with Tyranids. I have set goals for getting it all painted - first my 1500pt army, then the expansion to 2000pts, then the expansion to 4000pts for Apocalypse. After that, I'll find another way to expand it.

I have a tough choice then. The army I started with or the army that makes me happy. I love my tyranids too but...
Squig army versus tyranid army (the squig one is custom and pretty original)

A lot of the guys in my area bring multiple armies with them to the LFGS. The last guy I played used his rarely seen C:SM as they were closer to my SW and easier to help me learn on. However he has many other armies he regularly play.
Some are goofy or cheesy lists they play, some are not. They just decide based on what their opponent has, or what mood they're in. If you're hanging out long enough, you can get in more than one game, and then play both. You may find that you'd like to see how the one army does against a given opponent compared to your first.
I'm definitely one who thinks it's good to have an established army, and get comfortable with it before moving to a new one. I also want to learn 40k well, no better way than playing and facing different armies!
Just take it slow, avoid aforementioned 'Shiny Syndrome', and by managing your acquisitions, all armies will get played. Even if one gets set down for a bit between confrontations.

Personally, I like having multiple armies. That way you can rotate one out when you get tired of playing it.
For example, I played my Necrons very intensively from January to March in preparation for the big regional tournament in my area. Once that was over, I needed a break from them, so I went back to playing my other two armies.

I'm selling my wolves.
I can cope with two armies on the go - but not three.
Expecially when it comes down to updating them for edition changes.
So I have eldar with forgeworld and soon to be dark eldar allies and chaos...with forgeworld and demon allies.
My wolves just don't get a look in. I haven't played them since 4th.

However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives. |

I'll try to finish my tyranid army (I need a tervigon, hive tyrant, and a brood lord, If I have the points I may get a trygon.). And then add on to my IG platoon of squigfantry. I still have an iron priest from when I was still picking armies..... I better sell him.

I rotated through several second armies to find the mix i liked.
I've played orks since forever. Never plan on stopping, but sometimes i'm not in an ork mood.
My DE are my other big army. I played them back when, and then sold them, but when the new dex and range came in i was inspired to pick them up again. They give me a break from playing Orks, but it's hard to remember when you've played Orks for a while that you can hit on 3's with DE, not 5's
I also have tiny Nurgle Daemons (about 750 pts), BT and DA (same) forces mainly as painting projects, though they may see action as allies.
|
The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

I have several armies that i use, often using allied forces.
I have about 1500 pts of BA and around 1000pts of DA. I also have a small guard company that I try to fit in to some games as an allied force.
|
2000pts IG. ( based on fallout US Army)
3000pts XIIth Legiones Astartes 8th Assault Company. (Pre heresy)
never in the field of human conflict, has so much been fired at so many, by so few.
My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions. Loyal servant to the true emperor Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

Went through quite a few armies. I stick with sisters, chaos space marines, and grey knights. I love playing those three more than any other armies I've had; tyranids, tau, dark eldar, Orks,

When you have pictures at 10k points painted i'd be very interested in seeing pictures

I pick one army a month or so, I would play like six games with one army and then when I think of something else I want to try like a swarm I would switch to the other army.

I have (had) four 40k armies. Rotation was the key.
I used to rotate them - play each for a few months, then switch to another. Then 5th ed happened, the guard army I was building got pushed to the back of the queue, with the eldar and marines. Lastly, the GK got put away as the game stopped being one I wanted to play.

I have a rather large collection of models spread over a rather large collection of codexes. (see sig)
I just play whatever army from whatever codex I currently feel like. Usually I play three to four games with a given codex, tweaking or outright changing the army list as I go along.
Recently though my gaming group have asked me to stick to a single specific army for a little while.....and I am or course happily accepting that.

My advice would be, find one army, that has a ton of flavours. Then stick solely to that one army, but swap out. Chaos space marines do this well, where a nurgle army plays very different to a tzeentch army. So you can like one army, but decide each game what flavour you want.
Same works with daemons, but most armies can do this too, usually through shooty/assault varients, or infantry/mech.
So yeah, find a favourite army, and make lots of flavours of it, rather than using a whole range.

Try having 1 or 2 main forces and use any others you like as allied forces. I do this with my DA and Daemons, and currently I am working in 2 allies for each (pretty much the 4 other armies I would consider playing). Maybe I will make that custom chapter I have been planning but that would probably be a ways out.
