Hi Guys, just got myself 10 sniper scouts for my Ultramarines army.
Its the first time ill be doing flesh and skin colours. Does anyone have any tips on paints or techniques to do this?
Cheers

Well, I use OOP paints but basically, for white skin I start with a Basecoat of a brown, repaint it with a skintone and wash with Agrax Earthshade.

For brown skin I simply apply the same brown and wash Agrax

For darker skin, mix the same brown with a little black and wash.

How do you manage to get your hands on OOP paints? I think the new GW paints are good but some of their older ones were so much better.

I've had them for a long time. In fact, I'm still using 6 year old Goblin Green and Bronzed flesh.

Just use Mournfang Brown (replaced the Calthan Brown I use) and Elf Flesh as the fleshtone. Follow the steps above. Quick and easy. Some results can be seen in my Gallery (P&M Showcase).

1. Basecoat, whatever you use then.
2. Dwarf Flesh (old I guess)
3. wash with agrax/devlan mud
4. Elf Flesh (old I guess)

That is how I do it.

also, the Vallejo Game Color line is pretty much the match to the old Citadel colors.... and you get more... and it's cheaper... and it's in dropper bottles to avoid most evaporation/in-pot curing. Here's a compatibility chart

MANY MANY years ago, I was painting high elves. My go-to shade/wash was Chestnut Ink. I miss that stuff so much sometimes, it was a nice medium brown wash with a hint of red in it, so it would still give a warm shade on an elf face without looking dirty.

For the lazy:

Base coat a darker flesh color, dry brush a lighter color, then oil wash. Is it going to be amazing? No. Will it be better than a lot of people at your FLGS? In my case, yes.

Hi all, I am new here but I thought I would share a simple method I use for painting skin.

Prime white -> Elf Flesh -> P3 Flesh Wash (this is almost the same as chestnut ink) -> highlight with Elf flesh.

If I am doing something that is primed black, I usually use Tallarn Flesh as a base coat before Elf Flesh.

I think it looks cool on all my catachans.
