Newbie here; never played a competitive game before (living on the border of nowhere so there aren't many others with minis), but I've been collecting and painting (fantasy mostly) for ~10 years, give or take. Mostly from other manufacturers though. Just recently got IoB, since I really love the designs, and it gives me a solid base with two different armies I can check out. I've always loved reading the army books and everything as well, but haven't actually owned a rulebook until now.

But, now I have everything I need, and I'm starting to think it might be fun to learn how to actually play with the minis I've slaved over, whether or not I actually get out and do it

Welcome to dakka dakka home of miniature heaven. got a question there are many people with many different experience levels who can (potentially) help you with any questions you may have. if you want to post your work then i'm down for that. like ogling new painted figures from other people/reading home rules or custom fandexes. i am even open to discussion of the dreaded furries in 40k (lol having a joke of course, i like helping people laugh). the more the merrier.
