Hello everyone!
First off I'll introduce myself with a little info about myself. I am Dac'tyr and I'm what you'd call alternative, love me some metal, tattooes etc 40k is my secret obsession nobody knows about apart from my gaming group. I've been a lurker here for many terrian years, using a lot of your threads as inspiration. But now is the time to actually join, emperor help us all so please be patient and help me if I do something wrong
As the title suggests I'm doing salamanders, have loved them for years and have always been my no.1 army, fluff and gaming wise. The green armour, flames and promethian cult and the ritual branding which reminds me of tattooes.
Anyway enough about me more about the sons of vulkan!
I've been doing this since I was 16 and have yet to finish even a single model let alone an army so this thread will be my motivation! Currently in the works is the Bray'nath Ashmantle dread from forgeworld, beautiful model. My converted chaplain cassius, and a few marines. So yeah hopefully the pictures upload and are clear enough, don't have a camera just my phone. More to follow!

That free-hand is quite splendid! So is the dusty-weathering. How did you do it? And also, remember to wear a mask if you're working with resin!

Thanks guys this'll be a VERY slow thread, you have been warned
I dunno how to tag someone yet but in reply to Know No Fear; it was an oldish model so can't remember exactly. But off the top of my head paint it upto your finished standard, use some of the foam from a blister to dabble chaos black where you think damage would occur, do it again with boltgun metal. Then do a heavy wash of ogryn flesh. That wash is what gives it a dirt effect. I NEVER use a drop of badab black wash on any of my mini's. And yeah I'm still using the old colours, why waste them
Oh and a wash of devlin mud if you want a darker dirt/rust effect

Ah to reply you can click on the 'quote' button located on every post.
So basically the battle damage is "painted" on using foam, and the dirt is from a brownish wash? That's.. pretty cool! And heh, I'm using mostly old colours too

Yep! It makes the silver turn a rusty colour and in my case the green a nice oily effect. Here is another example but if my memory is correct, a watered down wash of baal red is used to end it.

You can see how copper looking the elbow has gone from all the redy washes

Thanks people. The loin cloth was a pain in the butt! Still have to do a whole cloak on him -_- might cheat and do a cast of vulkans cloak before i paint him up

Not much of an update today, the photos not that good cos the weather here in the UK has decided to start snowing... In April... Right...
Anyway, here's the marine I'm currently working on, first off I have a hatred for line production painting, in my opinion each and every piece of a model should be a piece of art. So this will be a slow one model at a time blog status at the moment is the baal red wash drying, then its onto the many layers of highlighting. I'm a zenithal lighting source kinda painter. Thinking this guy will be the second in command when they combat squad.

Anyway comments etc do your worse

Hey! This guy looks like he has a much muter shade of green than the guy up top, for some reason. Maybe it's just the photo. Are you gonna leave his faceplate green? You may want something to make it the centre of attraction on your mini, instead of having it the same colour as the rest of his armour.

The model up top is in my old house, since moving i havent had much time to paint and I've forgotten the actual recipe for the green! xD so this is my test model the photo is alot darker aswell but it is just knarloc foundation over white primer then snot green with a wash of baal red. Status atm is just finished reappling the snot green as the first highlight. Tomorrow I'll do the 1:1 snot green scorpion green. Then 1:2 snot green scorpion green. Then wash of ogryn flesh, battle damage etc, sharp hightlights of the previous green mix then thrakka green wash to finish. I hope that makes sense

Oh and for the face grill i didn't think of that. But I like it! Gold would be too veterany, silver maybe? You can't see it but on the pointing ark shoulder pad is a brass etching salamander head and the metal name plate thingy to make him stand out abit more

Thanks guys
The combi flamer is gunna be butchered to go on a tactical sergeant, I'm not happy with the resin model. And tbh Sternguard aren't even in my list anymore the loin cloth is actually a piece of flash off the vulkan sprue, covered in green stuff so I cheated a bit, ssh dont tell the master of the forge.

Atm I'm sat here finishing off the 1:1 of snot green and scorpion green then I'll start on the 1:2 hightlight.
