Can an Elysian Company Command Squad give orders to Imperial Guard units? The Elysian Company Commander has the "Senior Officer" special rule, and directs the reader to reference the Imperial Guard codex for how that rule functions. But the IG FAQ specifies that this rule only works on units from Codex: Imperial Guard. Taken literally, this would seem to suggest that an Elysian CCS could issue orders to IG units, but not other Elysians!

Is this actually the correct interpretation? Should I instead assume that the Elysians can only give orders to other Elysians? I'm really not sure where to go on this, but I really do not want to designate the IG CCS as my warlord. Any help as to how this should be interpreted would be appreciated.

RAW, yes, for a stupid reason. The Elysain list says "see Codex:IG", which means that you have the exact same rules as C:IG officers. That is, you can give orders to friendly units chosen from C:IG. So your Elysians can give orders to allied IG squads, but not to other Elysian units. Needless to say this is stupid.

RAI, no. The intent of the C:IG errata is that you can't give orders to allied units (or use allied IC leadership for orders, allied ICs in your units can't benefit from them, etc), so the RAI answer would be that Elysians can give orders to other Elysians but not any allied armies (and of course C:IG squads can't give orders to Elysians).

Rules-as-fluffy, yes. They're both IG regiments even if they're chosen from separate lists for rules purposes, and IG officers clearly have no problems with giving orders to units from other regiments (a Cadian CCS giving orders to Catachan veterans, for example). In a casual game you might be able to convince your opponent to allow you to give orders between the two armies.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

One could argue, that Elysians are just an addon for the IG codex, and therefore all Elysian troops should be considered part of the normal IG codex.

But that's where rule-lawyering starts, so maybe you should just opt to houserule it.

Especially since the Elysians and Imperial Guard reference the same rule on the same page of the same book.

But I have a feeling that I'm not going to get anywhere with this. Forgeworld simply doesn't support their publications in the same way that GW does. You can't really use RAW and FAQs with the same degree of certainty.

I suppose there's not really much you can do besides talking to your opponent or the TO beforehand, and switching your HQ selections if necessary.
