Hi, I'm think of starting Necromunda but I don't really dig the models. I was wandering what you guys would think of using the Dark Vengeance Chaos Cultists or the Forge World Renegades as Cawdor gang members.
All opinions appreciated

I think thats fine. I've seen Catachan = Orlocks and Golliaths, Empire Flagellents = Cawdor, Witch Elves = Escher, Armageddon IG = Delaque, Cadians/Empire Swordsmen = Van Saar.
Its really whatever 28mm fig looks good to you. People have issue if you use figs of a different scale, cause its real los. Using 25mm scale when everyone else has 28mm makes Hulk angry. Hulk smash puny men...

Chaos cultists = Cawdor. I'm starting to make a list at this point myself. There is a $10 box for 5 figures that would be brilliant to grab. A couple of those and you are well on your way and for a great bargain!! Automatically Appended Next Post: One thing I'm noticing about Cawdor though is that they can't use the flails or clubs a lot of the cultists are running around with. But if you may be able to trade the bodies off to someone else, clip off the heads, or even clip off the arms and set-up some lasgun troops.
I'm planning on playing Orlock using Catachan troops, and I'm gonna press a buddy into using Cultist as Cawdor. That would set up some great bit trading!!
I'll also put money that in the next 18 months, Cultists will get a multi-part plastic kit.

I'm thinking of getting all the DV ones off ebay for £15. As far as the flails are concerned I might cut off the weapon and replace them with knives from Space Marines sets.

Okay, so here is what I've been putting together:
Orlock - Catachan Jungle Fighters
Vaan Sar - Cadians
Esher - Dark Eldar Wyches
Cawdor - Chaos Cultists
With bit trading, a few kits are really gonna go a long way.
I need help with ratskins though. Anyone have any ideas on what to use for ratskins?

I would think cultists with Space Wolf parts for ratskins, but I think the maskis might not go too well...

I think the cultists might need a little work to de-chaosify them, but they might work. I'd also look at some of the brettonian range - the tabards of them men at arms are very Cawdor.
My perfect conversion list goes...
Orlock - catachans (particularly models with jackets and waistcoats)
Goliath - catachans and chaos marauders - the marauders have much better torsos.
Van Saar - don't use cadians - Eldar Guardians are much better in body shape and clothing - catachan/empire/flaggelant heads work best.
Delaque - more difficult - steel legion/krieg/ig officers/cultists with head swaps are probably best. Victoria Miniatures do some perfect bald heads with goggles.
Cawdor - hooded heads are hard to come by, but for bodies, chaos cultists or brettonian men at arms are best - they all need mid-length medieval tabards.
Escher - Wyches are probably best, but with a good amount of de-spiking. They're cyberpunk girls, not leather dominatirxes...
Redemptionists - Empire flagellants and chaos cultists would work - the ragged look of the flagellants is very appropriate.
Scavvies - zombies and chaos cultists mixed, with extra zombies. And some zombies for support. Scales could be made from orks and lizardmen heads.
Ratskins - probably the most difficult since they have such a strong look. Maybe some wood elf parts might work, but I think it's probably a eBay search for the originals
Spyrers - mix of Scouts and Eldar

Go for it. It should be fine to do so. My old Cawdor gang actually was a mix of old cultist minis combined with metal genestealer hybrids. My leader, heavies and gangers were all hybrids supported by cultist juves. Just reading their background screamed genestealer cult to me...of course most things did at the time as my beloved cult was being phased out of 40k. :(
Given that the Dark Vengance cultists are plastic it shouldn't be too hard to customize the weaponry either. Plastics are always much easier to work with than metal minis.
