I'll admit he's no Force Commander Hair gel, but he seems like areally well thought out character. In post or discussion I've seen about him people seem to think he was a dunce when he was just having to come to terms with the fact that maybe he had in some way (even unentinionally) I found his story compelling in that he was rather believable in his reactions.

I've only just started playing Retribution (Yes, I'm aware of my avatar, but I've been playing it online for a while, I bought the 3 DOWII games at once and worked my way through the stories), and I quite like Diomedes, he's fiercely loyal and an apt warrior, plus he looks bloomin' sweet with that huge axe from the dlc.

No, he replaced a character who did not go on and on about how everyone was wrong and he was correct. Nor did the damned game provide any reason to like the arrogant fool

I enjoyed him because he showed an opposite to the noble Marines from the first two games. The heart of the Chapter was tainted and incompetent, and Diomedes is the manifestation of that.

To me, he's not a character to be admired, but one to pity. While the 4th Company heroes are shining examples of what a Space Marine SHOULD aspire to, Diomedes reflects all of their worst aspects. Uncaring, dogmatic, arrogant, above the humanity they are sworn to protect.

When you face him in Chaos Rising, he's obnoxious and obstinate. It takes all kinds of effort to convince him that, yes,

He's the equivalent of the goody-two-shoes snitch character from so many movies, always getting in the way. Like the teacher from Ferris Bueller, or the dean from Old School, or I don't know, a million other examples. I have no idea why these characters even still get included in plots, all they do is irritate.

Kind of a let-down for the name Diomedes. If it was accurate to the Illiad character, shouldn't he be issuing challenges, then slashing open the chaos gods when they try to drag away their champion? Pretty epic sandals to fill.

People are way over simplifying this, Diomedes has been in the Chapter for over 400 years, he has 4 service studs. I found his reaction believable in that while he was willing to investigate, he also felt he knew Kyras well enough to make a judgement call. He was torn between his Kyras and Angelos and was conflicted. From our point of view it seems obvious but he didn't see all the stuff the original force commander saw. He saw what Kyras told him to see. But once he figured out what was going on he instantly knew Kyras was corrupt and he could no longer serve him. If someone accuses your oldest friend of murder, you don't search for proof he's guilty, you search for proof he's innocent. Diomedes found damning proof that Kyras was guilty and did what had to be done.

He is not Gabriel Angelos.

That right there is a big fricken problem. I don't want to play an unnamed force commander, I don't want to play Apollo Diomedes, I want Captain Gabriel Fething Angelos.

He has a big hammer.

He has a cape.

He has hair.

He has an awesome voice actor.

I mean really, can any marine compete? I liked Titus in "Space Marine," I also liked the veteran sergeant, Sidonus, and the crew from DoW II/Chaos Rising, but no one trumps Angelos.

That's why I converted one together for my own army, and he runs around smashing Trygons apart.

I was disappoint when I couldn't play as Angelos except for the tutorial... (haven't gotten too far into the campaign so if you get to play Angelos later on in the campaign, don't sue me)


But, taking Angelos out of the picture... Diomedes is an ok character... neither good or bad IMO. He has his high and low points (mainly lows... but his highs are high enough to even it out, to where I've gotten up to in the campaign)
