Hey gang...
So here's the situation.

A unit of CSM Raptors are engaged in combat with a unit of Space Marines.

The Raptor Champion issues a challenge to the Sqd Sergeant which is accepted.

At the end of the fight phase the challenge is drawn but the Raptors lose the combat with the Marines.

The Raptors fail their Ld test and are subsequently caught in a sweeping advance.

What happens to the Raptor Champion, who technically is only engaged with the Squad Sergeant?

Is he caught in the sweeping advance?

Have looked for clarity in the BRB and FAQs without success

Challenges offer no special protection from getting swept.

The raptor champion would indeed be destroyed by the sweeping advance.

Everyone is correct, however I think the part that's confusing you is that you said that models in a challenge are only engaged with each other, but what the challenge rule actually says is that the models in the challenge are considered to be in base to base with only each other. There is a big difference there.

YMDC has plenty of room for discussion veering away from the RAW, particularly in cases like this where what is being put forward as the RAW is absurd.
