So I'm an ork player, love it, and I live in the middle of nowhere so there aren't a lot of people to play against. Mostly the only time a game is played is when the four people who do play (me and three friends) get together. To make it fair we generally all play at the same time. FFA, or 2v2 generally. The only problem with that is... THEY ALL PLAY MARINES!!! One guy runs Chaos marines and always gives them the mark of nurgle, another runs Dark Angels and the last guy runs his own chapter. Its frustrating not being able to punch right through their armor, T-Shirts can't block a bolter round. Up until to day we always played Purge The Alien, and I got creamed every time while running huge mobs. Today we played a Crusade game. I won but I got annhilated, of 2000 points I fielded only about 300 remained. Out of everything that I brought, the Burnas, Lobbas, Mega-Dread, and my Lootas did the most work. I don't know how else to fight them. Ideas???

WAAGH!! Rambulklaw - 3000ish points
Kabal of the Gilded Twilight - Want! but can't afford
Steel Tide Chapter - oooh the possibilities... but no funds

Here are some of my Ork vs. Marine tips:

1. Don't whine about punching through power armor. You won't be able to do it whilst being cost effective. For Orks:

volume of fire > the gun's AP

2. Don't forget your KFF. You'll get plenty of 5+ cover, which can't be ignored by boltguns.

3. Were you forced to play Purge the Alien? If so, I think you're dealing with some TFGs.

4. Don't forget your Power Klaws.

5. Remember, you should outnumber your opponent easily; every shot can only remove at most: 1 Ork. You can do that too. Don't let your losses get you down.

Also, 2v2 games aren't really competitive, unless you coordinate your lists.

I play gunline SM, and the thing with Orks that gets me is always CC. Bring as much CC power as you can, and tie up those shooty units as quickly as possible.

Also, just a thought, but maybe this should be in Tactics?

Orks have hardly any AP3 or better weapons for getting through marine armor, but don't worry, you can still crush them.

The key is to just keep making him roll save after save (you seem to have this idea already since you're bringing lootas and burnas) Take as many shoota boyz as possible, they'll lay a ton of wounds into him and also have the ability to mess him up if he tries to assault them, both through overwatch and weight of attacks. Also look into grot big gunz, especially kannonz. They could be useful for cracking rhinos, picking off multiwound T4 characters, and in general just being a pain for the opponent.

Also, get them playing some more missions. As you noticed, you started winning when you have to focus on objectives and not just killing each other. Don't be a jerk, just say "hey, there's a ton more missions in here, how about we try some of them out?" I notice a lot of newer players coming on here having trouble against marines tend to be in a situation where they're playing mostly killpoint games, and since the marine player knows this, he's taking as few troops as possible so he can afford his toyz. Remember, not all armies have amazing troops like ours that can really carry their weight. If you start playing more objective games, things will quickly balance out, either because the marine player keeps losing because he didn't bring enough troops, or because he'll buy more troops to win objective games, making killpoint games not so onesided.

It's dissapointing to me when Orks, what are supposed to be a CC army, are only as strong as imperial guardsman. Thanks for the advice, I do like to take 5 Deffkoptas with twinlinked rokkits as a harrasing unit but thats a whole 30 more boyz that I could take instead

Take a green tide and field 3 Boomgun wagons. That way you got the numbers to punch anything to death that the Str8 Ap3 pi plate missed
Lootas are needed regardless of the army, which is kinda sad to me.

Yea, its not a fool-proof victory since Lascannons will probably punch a hole right through it, but long as your KFF is around you have a 5+ cover to get lucky with and every round you get to fire thats a lot of potential dead marines.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.
