Hey Dakka!

I've never collected/fielded a MEQ army before (gasp!), and I'm planning on starting a collection of the Minotaurs Chapter. For those of you that don't know them, here's a link to their bio:

Anyway, I've always loved these guys, and now that I'm starting up an army of them I'm not sure how to field it. Which Codex should I use? If I use Vanilla, how do I make a Vanilla SM army specialize in Shock assaults/Close Combat?

Any advice is very much appreciated

As they are 'remarkably well equipped' as a chapter, you could consider Codex: Dark Angels, for all their fancy gadgets.

Also, the Stubborn rule would perhaps be good at reflecting the berserk/unreliable nature that the Minotaurs make, given that they almost always arrive and pursue an enemy until their destruction?

I think they have an Army List in a Imperial Armour book? One of the Badab War ones!

Of course, your Local GW might not allow FW Lists. My store allows FW units in codex armies, but not entire lists.

I can't speak for everyone, however.

That's an idea, I'll think about it, though some of the new DA stuff is a bit meh looks-wise

There is an army list in there, but it's for a "Siege Assault Vanguard" army, which is a variation on the SM list. There are some Minotaur-specific rules in there for the characters of Asterion Moloc and Ivanus Enkomi, which are options for an SM list.

Do remember, you only need to use the rules, not the DA models. Use vanilla kits with DA rules and conversions!

And enjoy some pretty disliked fliers

The FW-Book suggests to play the Minotaurs Minis as C:SM-HQ.

That's what I think I'm gonna do then...

So, how do I make Space Marines super assault-ey?

They are vanilla marines - their HQ gives them preferred enemy spacemarines - (basically all loyalist versions)

However with the brokeness that is space wolves you could better represent them - wolfpriests giving preferred enemy (infantry) would screw most things over..

However I'd go vanilla with moloch and metric tonnes of plasma since preferred enemy allows '1's to be re-rolled!

^That sounds nuts Plus I can play them against my friends Blood Ravens and gain Preferred Enemy, which would be sweet.
