Hey guys, I need help badly. My brother and I have been playing 40k for about 10 years on and off. Recently my brother has hit a wall... he is super competitive and wins 9 out of 10 games we play, recently he has lost faith in GW and 40k due to the rock paper scissors nature of the game as well as the general douche baggery that GW does so well... since we pretty much only ever vs eachother it often get stuck in a loop of list tailoring as each of us tries to gain the upper hand. Personally I just play for fun, I dont care if I win or lose so long as I don't get tabled turn 3. Occasionally I will add a unit that I think will increase my chances of winning but nothing close to power gaming I play chaos marines and daemons and have had the 1 world eaters army for a good 5 years. Where as my brother is constantly changing his army. He currently has a necron flyer spam, ork meganob spam, vulkan and bike spam and a tyranid tervigon spam. He is selling them all on ebay and I need to stop him or else I will have nobody to play! (I live forever away from any city or other gamers) what should I do?

Tell him he will regret selling his armies.

You could just keep playing a particular edition, that way you never need to update your army.

Plus with his large collection he shouldn't have to keep buying a new army each time the rules get updated. One of his many forces should be playable.

If all else fails, take up Warmachine, find some new people to play with, or both.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

how about you two make a list for each others?
that way theres no list tailoring and you get to use stuff you normally dont.

^i like that idea, using the models that you share, make almost and have each other play the lists and after a game or two, switch. And if he currently gets bored from spam top tier lists try have him play one of you armies or have him make a fluffy list

If he started playing fluffy fun armies like you, the "rock paper scissors" nature of the game wouldn't be such a problem.

His problems don't sound like a problem with GW, but a problem with his list choices. Notice how all of his armies are spam armies? It doesn't sound like his problem is that the game is Rock Paper Scissors, it's that he insists on playing armies that crruuusssh tons of stuff but have a large glaring weakness. Tell him to try and form a normal varied list and he'd probably enjoy it more.

i like the idea of just staying in this edition, part of his problem is at the speed GW is reseasing stuff he worries that his armies will be outdated before they are even finished in which case he will have to replace all his models with the new ones... dont like my chances of convincing him of that he spends more time on the forums etc that the bloody admins

6th is a decent edition, tell him you can just play 6th as long as you want. And he's a good player, see if you can get him to simply buy some other, less super competitive units, and build a somewhat fluffy list. I find those are often much more fun to play, and going against another fluffy list, its not the rock/paper/scissors scenario.
