I just received my WE decals from FW for my HH WE btu ive been quite reluctant and nervous to apply them, after a while they seem to peel or chip off. I have a satin varnish type thing from Army Painter i think would it be good to apply that over it?

I think the general consensus is to apply decals onto a surface that has been gloss varnished first, then apply a coat of varnish(any type) over the transfer to protect it. You might also have a look at products from micro scale industries who produce various chemical solutions for applying transfers.

I was always deathly afraid of doing decals because they never came out right. I purchased micro sol and micro set from micro scale industries and googled "40k how to apply decals transfers" and did exactly as they say in the tutorials. It worked wonders and I couldn't be happier.

Yes.

There's some insight here, as well:

Military modellers have used this stuff for ages.

You won't regret your purchase!

I use their gloss varnish first then apply the decal using the set then sol.

I matt my models so I use the army painter matt varnish in the bottle, gives a really good finish over the top that matches the rest of the model.

do you matt the whole model or just where you put the decals? and do you use spray varnish or the tpye that comes in the dropper bottle

Both can work
Might want to end with a light coat of matt varnish though, to take the shine off

I paint with the army painter system, so I spray matt before doing the highlights and basing, I then do the decals and I do this:

Single coat of the micro gloss (also good for gems and jewels).
fix the model with micro set and let dry (otherwise it could move when applying the micro set).
Apply micro set, sometimes this will take 3 coats.
Matt it down with the army painter matt dropper bottle.

The matt varnish at the end really finishes it off.
