I am new to infinity and I am having trouble understanding how close combat works.

My question is after a target is hit after cc rolls what is the damage that the target takes in regards to ARM rolls? Is it the number that beat it in cc or PH value of the attacker.

And also what does PH -2 mean in combat? This is related to how knives work.

The amount of damage after a succesful cc attack will depend on what type of cc weapon you are using. So as you've pointed out a knife would result in damage of the attackers PH -2. The available cc weapons for each unit will be listed in the models profile so you would pick the cc weapon you were going to use before combat and then the damage is resolved based on whatever weapon you choose. So for most basic units armed with a pistol and knife its usually better to use the pistol in cc as it has a damage of 11 compared to the knife which is based on the attackers PH -2.

as bantha beast says, the damage is based on what weapon you are using and is listed in the equipment sections (various across all the books obviously), but most of them are PH (ie it uses whatever your PH stat is), or PH-2 for knives (which is exactly what it says on the tin, the using model's PH....minus 2....as the damage value)

For the examples below...

Model A has a CC16, PH 14, a knife, and no martial arts skills
Model B has a CC14, PH 13, a CCW, and no martial arts skills


Example 1:
- Model A moves into contact with Model B
- Model B declares Attack: CC
- Model A declares Attack: CC

Face to Face roll is created.
Model A roll a CC of 13 (16) and Model B rolls 10 (14), so model A wins.
Model B must now make a ARM check against DMG 12 (PH -2 for knife)

Example 2:
- Model A moves into contact with Model B
- Model B declares Attack: CC
- Model A declares Attack: CC

Face to Face roll is created.
Model A roll a CC of 12 (16) and Model B rolls 13 (14), so model B wins.
Model A must now make a ARM check against DMG 13 (Straight PH thanks to CCW)

lol after you answer questions a few hundred times you start to cut straight to full blown examples

I imagine you do I normally at least attempt some sort of example (not good ones tohugh), but im definitely not at the level where i can just pull them out of the bag though!

Dont forget about the +3 ARM to the losers ARM roll if their CC attack was successful but didnt beat the winner :p
