I'm looking for feedback on successful lists using DAs (any builds, except Banner of Devastation/triple LRC cheese). The codex has been out for a while now and I'm just curious if some people have had good success in competitive environments and/or TAC types of games. I've only played DAs in friendly games against a buddy who alternates mainly between Necrons, CSM and recently Daemons; he's very competitive (came 3rd at the last beakycon in Tampa) and rolls like a champ so I have not won many games (my tactical acumen might have failed me once or twice too...), that said, these lists have had the best track record and overall feel so far:

My favorite lists so far:

1) (dual FOC) Lysander/Sternguards in pod, 2 small scout squads, StormRaven, TFC
Termy Libby + DW Knights, 2 tact squads in rhinos, devastator squad + ADL/QG

Probably the most promising list, (arguably) the best of SMs and the best of DAs, Lysander is still one of my favorite characters out there and he never fails to amaze me. Combined with the Knights and Libby, it makes for a nasty Alpha strike, meanwhile there's good fire support and AA provided by the supporting cast.

2) Decked-out Termy Libby + DW Knights in LRR with Vindicator, supported by 3 Tact squads in rhinos, full Devastator squad with ADL/QG and Mortis Contemptor
I originally ran this list with Ezekiel, but the termy libby has access to the displacer field, which is awesome, I've also been lucky at getting Misfortune which combined with Prescience makes for a nasty assault unit. I typically combat squad all the tacts, deliver the heavy weapons mid field while the other combat squads push to other objectives, the Vindicator is mainly a distraction/bullet-magnet.

3) Belial, Termy Libby, 2x 5-man shooty DW termies, 1 Tact squad in rhino, 1 Tact squad in pod, venerable dread in pod, devastators + ADL/QG, devastators with mid-range weapons in rhino, mortis contemptor
One of my first lists, did pretty well overall, I actually tend to keep the Libby in the back to cast Prescience on the Devastators.

I've also seen batreps of very successful all Ravenwing armies but I don't own any bikes...

Anybody out there care to talk about their successful DA lists?

So you're wanting to see if DW&Greenwing is competitive?

Greenwing can be if decked out with the banner but giving them Rhino's or Drop pods? The puppies do that better. They just don't really have a close combat threat which is any good. you're also reliant on them coming into your 24" deathzone.

Deathwing really needs lots of close support which the greenwing aspects cannot, I believe, adequately produce. You can start throwing 4++ LRCs with a Dev banner full of termi's in their face. If you start running ravenwing to fulfil threat overload it probably would have been better to just go full ravenwing. As allies DW can work, throw a LRC with DWK and Librarian at them with drop drop podding wolves or something.

I don't see them as anything super competitive but you have to either go full ravenwing or take them as allies to do anything better than others.

I agree with you, after a few more games it seems the only truly competitive DA army is a RW one. Greenwing does not bring anything particularly new and DW, while fairly effective, costs a lot and lacks mobility once on the board. The standard HQs can be kitted out to add a little flavour and buff to the army at a fair cost and the top 3 named characters unlock special unit as troops but aren't true beatsticks like Lysander or Grimnar. The banners are fun but cost a lot and it's hard to maximise their use (devastation banner + RW is arguably the best combo there).

Overall very fun to play but falls a bit short for people who don't own bikes...

You could bring 3 LRCs, Techmarine w/ PFG on a bike in a RWCS with Dakka banner, apothecary et al. However that's still just exploiting the dakka banner which the bikers do for cheaper.

I think Ravenwing can be particularly good. Using the Bolter-banner they can really, really hurt armies with an overwhelming alphastrike.

The problem is: Heldrakes.

I think Deathwing are effectively dead. In my area I see mostly mass infantry lists and Deathwing struggle in those match-ups.

Greenwing with lots of bodies, maybe mixed Mech/Infantry and some other tricks could probably make for a decent TAC list, though i'd probably be very, very tempted to ally in Guard so that Azrael can give out that sweet 4++.

All good feedback. Same feeling I've had, a bit bittersweet really to have a brand new codex with a lot of cool stuff that isn't more competitive.

Still having a lot of fun playing it though!
