Subject: Dark Angels vs Eldar, 800 points - Whirlwind or Predator

Hi, guys.
I've got an army list, 800 points in total
1 x Librarian,
5 x scouts with sniper rifles and camo cloaks,
10 man squad of Tactical marines with a plasma rifle + cannon
6 x black knights, 2 x grenade launcher + corvus hammers
1 x dark shroud
I'm tempted to take a Razorback and a Predator but then I read up on a whirwind, which is cheaper than a predator.
what would you guys suggest? Whirlwinds any good?
I also play against Chaos, 2 x Orks, 3 x Space Marine chapters, Imperial Guard and Tau. I'd change my weapons, such as using flame template weapons against the orks and Tau

Against eldar, whirlwinds are going to massacre them if they are on foot. Most models are T3 with 5+ or 4+ armor. Eldar rely on cover saves, so those barrages will make quick work of most units.
A pred is okay against eldar armor and wraith units, but the whirlwind will probably serve you better.

If you can, fit in 2 razorbacks with Las/Plas and one Whirlwind..
It gives you the coverage versus pathfinders and still gives you the lethality against vehicles.
DA = 2 Razorbacks + 1 WW = 215
DA = 1 Razorback + AC/Las Predator = 180
If you have the models, you can reduce your troops or lower the librarian...
For instance:
Librarian w Auspex 70
5 Scouts w Sniper Rifle & Cloak 75
10 Tacs Plasma Gun & PC 170
Razorback (Las/Plas) 75
10 Tacs Plasma Gun & PC 170
Razorback 75
Whirlwind 65
6 BK: 252
1 Dark Shroud 80
1032
To get it below 1000 I would leave one BK with GL behind.
To get it down to 800, drop down to 5 man tacs minus the PC and the Dark Shroud... 230 points... then change one Plasma Gun to a Flamer...

Spring for the predator, with heavy bolter sponsoons. The extra toughness is worth it. And with the heavy bolters you're shooting 6 shots at the same str and ap as vengeance missiles minus the scatter, admittedly at shorter range.
Barrage is nice but a lone whirlwind is a fire magnet. Same for a predator really.
Also personally I'd drop the plasma cannon for a missile launcher. You shoot it, it blows up, kills your guy or you save it. Or it does shoot and then scatters. I'd rather have the launcher, kraks dont scatter.

Whirlwinds are going to be very dangerous to Eldar players, especially if they like Pathfinders or Guardian Defenders with Conceal. They will be considerablly less useful against Mechanised Eldar, or Jetbike Heavy lists. So bear that in mind.
A good low point eldar army is going to have a lot of s6, so any light vehicles like razor backs will be focus firered very quikly. A Quad Gun is a worthy purchase, Not only does it threaten wave serpents, but you will do massive damage to war walker squadrons, and can even intercept outflanking war walker squadrons. Quickly destroying War Walkers will do a lot to reduce the amount of s6 fire power blasting into you.

The guy's bringing a tank and he has jet bikes, too. He's definitely more of a mech list (mainly because Eldar seemingly suck!)
BUT I'm also against imperial guard, orks and Tau, so a pie plate would be awesome, no?

Against Orks, IG blobs, and Tau on foot, Whirlwinds do OK.
I brought 3 whirlwinds for the first time recently against our resident Eldar player who brought a fair amount of on-foot troops. It was fun!

Vs mech the pred would be better but if hes slogging units or camping pathfinders on an objective the ww would be better

Whirlwind all the way. You can stick it behind cover and happily lob rockets at him all game, granted it's full scatter but not being shot at is sometimes worth it. The Castellean missiles are great against the foot troops in cover and the Vengeance missile can pen their light vehicles (Vypers, Warwalkers) If he runs Brightlances the Pred is only AV12

Also, at 800 points, Eldar aren't going to bring a lot of mech.

Whirlwinds are very underrated, I think. I would consider using one of each, as an auto/las pred can put the hurt on all kinds of Eldar toys.

My low point Eldar lists manage to have an oppressive amount of fire power compared to my opponents, and still maintain divergent threats. Remember that Eldar HQs, and Heavy Support can be built cheaply and efficiently, which lets them squeeze in a lot of fire power (and wave serpents) while their opponents are for the most part still struggling to get their 2 troops and HQ in. akaean's 800 points of dirty dirty space elfs Ultimately I think that Eldar are a very powerful army in low point games because of the amount of fire power and mobility that they can squeeze into a list. You need to tread carefully, especially with Space Marines who are forced to pay a lot of points for their troops and HQs.
