Ok, this is a tank shock question that came up in my last game. Page 85 of the BRB for reference. Heres the situation.
During the previous player turn (mine) I moved 5 tac marines into b2b (base to hull really) contact with the front of the LR. I moved 2 marines into b2b with the rear of the of the LR. On the right hand side of the LR he had a unit of raptors in b2b (not on purpose, but maybe just really close) with the LR.
During his turn he want to turn the LR 90 degrees to the left (the clear space) and tank shock a unit of guardsmen.
Now, When I moved my tac marines into b2b with the LR, I did it to prevent that entirely, and although I was a good sport about it, my goal was to prevent him from tank shocking.
Now the rules part, It says to tank shock, hes got to pivot (turn, now dont hammer me for exact wording, im not posting the rules verbatim cause of well the forum rules) his LR to face the direction he wants to tank shock. If he pivoted his LR he would be forced to move "through" my 2 units and by move I mean push aside physically and also push aside his raptors. Where I disagreed he could do this was this part of the tank shock rules where it says it moves forward until it comes into contact with an enemy unit...Hes already in contact, does that mean he has to resolve it without pivoting or does it abstractly move through our units (even, lets say he moved his raptors away instead of leaving them there) and is able to turn and tank shock the guardsmen?
