Gibbering Horde of Chaos

So im starting my first army and ive chosen chaos space marines. I got my codex and was looking into a 1500 point army to play with my friends and this is what I have come up with. As I have never played before I would like a veterens opinion on it. It very much has a Tzeentch theme to it.
1 HQ- Ahriman- 250 points
3 Troops- Thousand son squads, 3 Aspiring sorcerers with bolt of change and one with melta bomb (melta bomb with extra points) - 260 points
13 thousand sons divided into 4-5-4 -299 points
3 chaos rhinos with havoc lauchers and dozer blades(dozer blades with extra points)- 165 points
3 Heavy support- Defilers, equiped with twinlinked lascannon and havoc launchers- 525 points

-Total: 1499

U have to roll for psychic powers or opt for primaris power. I do not think you can cast psychic powers from a transport can u? I remember some one stopping me for some reason. Arhiman can infiltrate d3 units. Can that be your defilers? If I could then id give them extra dccw.

I guess Thousand Sons get no love among CSM players

Arhiman maybe too expensive at low point games, proxy him as a sorc with MoT or bolster your army with csm or cultist.

I just do not think you can snap fire a psychic shooting when sorc in rhino moves 12".

I have a hard time reading your list. Try:

Arhiman-250

1ksons+1men, melta bomb, rhino, hml, dozer-230
1ksons, melta bomb, rhino, hml, dozer-207
1ksons, melta bomb, rhino, hml, dozer-207

Defiler, +2 dccw-195
Defiler, tl-lc, hml-xxx
Defiler, tl-lc, hml-xxx

Oh and are you trying to play at 1000, 1500, 1750, or 2000?

Keep the defilers, and tell me how well they fare now a days. I have a pair collecting dust.

From how you have things pointed you seem to be using the old codex and and not the new one?

Yeah, looks like he might have made that mistake...

Zeissx, the new Chaos Codex is a hard covered book for 6th Ed. Make sure you have the 6th Ed Base rule book as well.

1k son Sorc in termi armor is one of the most deadly units in the book with the load out you can give him and physic powers. Much better than Ahriman IMO even if he does have infiltrate.

He has the new codex. He is EXTREMELY new to 40k. I got him on Dakka, but I am an IG player. I can't really help him with CSM.

WIth the point costs you listed, are you playing with the old codex?

Anyway, id drop the havoc launchers on the rhino's. Usually your maxing thier speed out or there dead and get 0-1 shot a game. Considering how squishy rhinos are putting on upgrades on them is a little meh.

You are packing a lot of ap 3 (of coarse), but with what you have you have a extreme lack of ap 2 an/or anti mech weapons or volumes of fire to make up for it. Your only high str weapon is coming from your defiliers, who are wasting the battle cannons if they are shooting at a tank.

If you are all meched up maybe try a small bike squad with melta weapons.

Yeah... it is a lot different!

But I agree with the 1kSon Terminator Lord and Terminator Sorc, both with Sigil of Corruption gives them 2+ armor saves and 3+ Invuln saves. So if someone shoots him with a plasma gun, you use your invuln save because it is AP 2 (ignores your armor). At that point, your playing the dice game... do you roll bad or not?

I like having Terminators in a 1kSon list because they get 4+ invuln saves. Big debate on what is better, Mark of Nurgle or Mark of Tzeentch, but for the sake of your list, just run with MoT. If you decide to do Close combat, I would seriously consider a Land Raider, remember if you want to add your HQ to the squad make sure it can still fit into the LR! Running more than one LR can be effective, but avoid Demonic Possession, as it can randomly eat a fig inside of it, killing it without a save! Personally, I think your better off going shooty Terminators with Combi-plasma/meltas and a mix of power weapons. Give your Lord a Chainfist and a Combi-weapon and your Sorc a Combi-weapon and leave him his Force weapon. People like Axes because they are AP 2, but strike at Init 1 and are only +1 str. Mauls are AP 4 (terrible), but give you +2 Str and strike on your Init. Swords are AP 3 (marine killers) Strike at your Init, but have no bonus to Str. You can make your Force Weapon and Terminator power weapons any of these choices for free. I think 1-2 squads of Terminators would be pretty nasty, depending on your point total.

1kSons can be done a couple of ways... CSMs with the Icon and Marks. Most scoff at the 6+ Invuln save (and are right to do so), but it can come in handy now and then, specially in CC and against weapons that do not allow cover saves but still ignore your armor. This is if you want to do 'pre-hersey' and have more of a living Marine feel to your fluff. Also gives you special weapons, though you lose the Aspiring Sorc. If you take a Sorc with a Mark of Tzeentch, you can pick 1kSons from the Elite section and treat them as a troop choice instead. Gift of Mutation is also a very Tzeentch thing to take fluff-wise.

Once you read the Codex (and hopefully don't get confused to much between the two), make a list and folk will try to help you.

Good luck and have fun!
