Hi Dakka,
Played loads of Tau pre 6th edition, list was the pretty much the same week in week out so I retired Tau and bought the Green skins out. But new shiny toys means I am dusting off the orange and white Tau. So after a quick flick through the codex and based on the models I have, I have come up with this list. It would be good to get some input as there are things I may have misread or not read.
HQ
Crisis Commander - PR MP SDx2 ATS - 142pts
Cadre - 60pts
Troops
12 x FW - 108
12 x FW with Leader with TL and ML - 133pts
12 x Kroot with sniper rounds - 84pts!
Fast Attack
Tetra x2 - TA - 110pts
Heavy Support
Hammerhead - TL SMS and DP - 140pts
SDT - 58pts
Broadside - HYMP, VT, TL SMS - 85pts
Elites
Riptide - HBC, TL PR, SMD, VT, ATS, Puretide chip - 243pts
Crisis x3 - FB, MP, ATS - 165pts
Crisis x3 - PR, MP, ATS - 165pts
Points 1493
So as 6th edition puts more emphasis on troops I think 3 choices are key. Sniper Kroot infiltrating into a ruin just is awesome. With two markers they hit on 2's (6's precision shots) and wounding anything on 4's with 6's rending! 4+ save in cover. 24 shots at 12 inches I think they will be awesome! Firewarriors move to objectives, the group with the cadre stay back to get the extra shot. Suits do the useful harras jump shoot jump and riptide just causing havoc. Broadside and riptide for anti air duties. Hammerhead and riptide for antitank. I think most basis are covered and with the majority of the army having ATS it means I can pick out some meltas or captains etc.
Once again I would love some feedback and if there is anything you guys suggest that would be great!

Looks okay. I would like more marker lights personally. Your riptide is illegal. You can't take signature support systems (puretide chip). Also the velocity tracker is not great on him as his heavy burst cannon isn't great at taking down fliers.

Good call on the Riptide, That is a few points saved. Good point on the VT. Probably better for the Ion accelerator. As for markers I have 8 with the tetras and 2 on the FW's. I think taking a load of pathfinders may be overkill a little but perhaps take a full squad and use rail rifles.
You have any suggestions on what signature system to take?

The velocity tracker is great on the heavy burst cannon for the Riptide. 8 Shots at str 6 will give a couple of pens or glances and then if you nova charge then 12 shots gives you even more chance and you get rending making it able to take down vendettas. its the same principle as taking out av12, 13 and 14 with assault cannons it works well.

The overall problem with the overcharged HBC is it gets hot. That's 12 shots, so almost a guaranteed 2 gets hot rolls (or 12 if you're having a REALLY bad day). Granted, the riptide has 2+ save, but, depending on how many 1s rolled, it can get ugly quick. Not worth hurting yourself over.

That is very true about the rending rule. I had changed the list to put the Ion Accelerator one the riptide but having 12 shots with any 6s being pens is very nice indeed. Think it may take a few games to work out which one to go with!

Hey, I can only really go on my experience of reading the book, and the single game I have played with it.
- Riptide: I honestly think the shielded drones are rubbish. If the enemy are going to kill the riptide I would expect small arms fire to knock them away and then the big guns. IMO not worth the points. I also didnt like the idea of skyfire on the big guy myself. I went with the ion accelerator with stims and interceptor to deter deepstrikes.
- Since you have spare points, blacksun filters maybe?
- I like the ATS Idea, not sure how well it would work though. If you play with it let me know!
- I would personally loose the Cadre, not a fan. I would replace with an ethereal for a bit more benefit (especially with your heavy drone team). Ofcourse this relies on your force being close together.
- Yeah I like the kroot too, havent used them yet, but Im hoping to bring some pain!
Anyway just what I think, good luck with any games you play!

Thanks for the reply.
Tbh I thought the Missleshield drones were a little pricey hence only one, Thought I would keep him behind the big guy until the riptide had only one or two wounds left then put him out the front, but tbh its 25pts I could spend elsewhere.
So I was under the impression that the skyfire gave him an option to shoot air units at normal bs or am I wrong? I also don't really understand interceptor can some explain?
I have a game on Saturday against blood angels, they have a flier and some termies but nothing too bad. I think that the ATS will be nice at getting rid of some meltas etc from units.
My only concern with the etheral is that if he gets targeted then he has no armour and is basically dead offering additional VPs but I guess his buffs are nice.
Kroot are the bomb I have always liked them and I hope these sniper kroot really bring the pain!
So yer could someone explain the interceptor special rule?

Interceptor, you can choose to fire at the enemy at the end of their movement phase if they are in range and LOS. Can't fire that weapon next turn.
If you have skyfire and interceptor you can fire at flyers with full BS.
Pg 38 for more if that doesn't make sense.
Etheral has his 2+ LoS to keep him alive. Or just keep him out of LOS.
